driving 200ish miles every week/other week... drop on springs bad idea?

I commute home on weekends from school often like every other week during tests or every week when i'm free. It is around 110 miles each way so is a mild drop on springs a bad idea? I am at 45k miles and have stock 17's.

cant afford coilovers right now and I know springs are a temporary fix, but for the amount of miles I am driving is it worth replacing struts and what not down the road? What damage can I expect?

the wheel gap is absolutely hideous and a little part of me dies every time I notice it

You shouldn't have a problem. Do it.

it depends on your definition of mild but it shoudn't affect ride quality too much if you do a conservative drop. Just remember if you're dropping more than an 1" you may need camber kits, etc to avoid uneven tire wear. If you are traveling is mostly highway you shouldn't have much of a problem at all.
