Its time

I think its time to say goodbye to my 2003 sedan and welcome a 2008G35X sedan and was wondering how to lower it about an inch and will my 18 inch wheels fit the X. It seems I saw something about Eibachs but was wondering if coupe or Z springs would do the job. My 2003 has been good to me and it will be tough to say goodby but it will be going to my best mate so I will get to visit from time to time.

good decision, once you own the 08 you will feel the difference in interior/exterior quality and styling as well as the smooth power curve unlike the old DE(i have 05 fx35 and drive 05 g35 coupe almost every other week and there is a notable difference in power delivery).

Your 18s will fit fine, you can actually fit more aggressive setups on 07+ cause of the factory rolled rear fenders, but since your getting a X its your decision if you want to run staggered or not, a lot of people stay away from it citing possible problems but a few that have gone that route have experienced no problems as long as they maintained the same overall diameter.

As for the drop, you can get the slightest drop with impul which is just a little less than an inch but the plus is no need ofr camber kits or anything to get back into specs. Eibach is a popular drop but i think it would be more than an inch for sure. I have seen a couple guys with coupe/Z springs and those drops have been notably more lower and a couple have had saggy rear.

Hope this helps, and post pics once you have your new 08 along with some old shots of your 03.

Welcome to the Second Gen club!
I've had my 08 for three weeks after trading in my 04. Its a pretty significant upgrade in every department(I do miss the reclining rear seats however, or my passengers do).
I'm running 18" aftermarket wheels with no problem(I'll be honest, I cant tell if they are 8.5 or 9 but whatever they are they are WAY more flush than stock weels), I'm still considering a drop since this is my DD and my shuttle to ski resorts.

Thanks guys, I feel at home already. I actually have not bought the car yet and have not really decided on the X or not but will be buying from a used car lot that will get the car for me at an auction. This week he had a perfect 2008 G35X in black with NO accidents and I'm thinking that most cars going through the auctions are X's as I'm in the NorthEast but I never had any issues driving in the white stuff with 4 winter tires and the VDC on my 2003RWD.

Actually I think I want the S but don't think there will be many coming through the auctions. What don't you like about your X?

I wish it was a 6 speed and I personally don't think the AWD is that great. Had I known what the AWD was like I would've bought the S and thrown some Blizzaks on it in the winter. I know it's not a big deal, but that is my only regret with getting the X.

X doesn't work that well? Everyone I have heard with an X, along with both our 04 and 08 Xs, was that they are tanks in the snow... tires make a big difference.

Congrats on the car man. I love mine.

^ getting rid of the X I thought you really enjoyed your X? I'm surprised you didn't mention your 370z spring expirement that worked well for you?? If you're looking for a mild drop the Impuls will work but are pricey for the drop you get. I'm in the process right now (installing next week) my 370z springs and rear shaved mounts for a 7/8 in drop in front and 5/8 in drop in the rear, check rpm's thread for some pics. He's the one who inspired me to do it on my X

Maybe they haven't driven really good AWD cars or maybe I'm the odd ball, but the X isn't even in the same game as my S4 was. I agree tires make a difference, but if your gonna run snow tires why not just buy an S? Also you can get more HP with a tune with the 6m.
