Megan TP's leaking

Well I got the Megan Resonated TP's on march 30, By april 15th I hear puttering inside my cabin when i push on the throttle about 1/4th of the way. At 1/8th throttle i can't hear it. I thought it might have been my belt tensionor however my friend put the car under load and i listened bellow and its definitely coming from the pipes. Called Megan they said send them a video and they will replace it. I talked to him more asking why these would fail so fast, he said that worn motor mounts could be the cause the TP's to flex to much and cause the flex pipe to fail. But isn't that wat the flex pipe is for? I liked the sound before this but really their flex pipe can't compensate for a little flex?

Gonna try and get under and send a video so I can get a new set on.

common issue with the megans, they can replace it and it'll crap out again lol...i think the best advice would be to have the flex joints replaced with pipe at an exhaust shop

Zomorg3 Apr 17, 2012 10:03 AM

so have it just all solid pipe? wouldn't that crack even faster ?

Austin713 Apr 17, 2012 10:09 AM

no, the entire exhaust has flex mounts on it, your engine mounts allow flex under rev, it will all just flex together. solid pipe is always stronger than that mesh stuff. see if you can get your money back and get some ART TPs. :) Fast intentions makes resonated test pipes as well. very high quality. from what it sounds like people are having issues with megans. rather replace with something that isnt going to crap out on you , especially seeing how much of a pain in the *** cat install is.

I had Megan resonated test pipes before ART pipes.

The Megan test pipes I had literally had over 1000 hard launches at the track and didn't crack or leak.

If it's coming from the gaskets, use copper spray gasket. It always worked for me.

Zomorg3 Apr 17, 2012 01:48 PM

then why did you change to ART pipes ?

Better low-end power and got a deal on them used.

you are one of the few

It sounds like its coming closer to the engine but i can hear it like puttering which leaves me to believe there is an exhaust leak somewhere, do the gaskets they supply fail usually? cause i held a lighter up to the flex pipe and it didn't blow the flame out at all when my gf would step on the pedal. And she and I both agree that its coming closer from the engine but sounds like its underneath the passenger side dash board from inside the cabin

but Jairen did the gaskets that came with yours fail easily?
If its just gaskets ill be relieved

NATH_19 Apr 17, 2012 03:10 PM

I got one for free this weekend practically brand new.

Ima try it on and if it leaks.. throw it away after.. LOL

I reused to the stock metal gasket. I've used the same gasket on the Megan's and ART pipes and hasn't leaked. The TP>y-pipe, I used the crappy supplied gasket, but applied copper spray gasket.

Well, what worked for me, may not work for everyone else.

Even with a busted engine mount that I discovered later after a track day, they still held up fine. The flex pipes really help. Hell, even Motordyne V1 ART pipes cracked but later fixed.

OP, If it's just an exhaust leak, it's an easy fix. Even the most "mad tyte JDM" exhausts can leak. Like I said, copper spray gasket if your using the crappy supplied paper gaskets and even pressure when tightening down the flanges. Use the OEM metal gasket.

Yea my gaskets were pretty much dust when I was taking it off so i used the ones that came with it. I looked into oem gaskets and i was like wait those are metal or titanium or something that autozone said it needed to special order. The ones that came with the test pipes were not that quality at all. Id rather just get the good gaskets and not have to worry about it again.
