Mike's radar mount installed with pictures
 

Many have done it before and took pictures, let me add to that collection.

This is how the Mike's mount came in

I put black electrical tapes on the mount surface (contact the stem of the mirror) to eliminate rattling noise and hoping to have a "firmer grip".

The mount adjustment is non existance. You have to bend the metal mount from the radar detector to get the right angle. You can't unclip the detector after everything is in place. If I want to remove the detector, I would have to unscrew the two screws on the mount and take out the metal mount plate along with the detector. With the detector gone, the Mike's mount isn't very noticable.

I tightened all the screws with enough force to keep things from moving around.

The other mounts available on the market are nicer and more adjustable, but they are also more than x2 more expensive. Mike's mount works, but at a bare minimal. It's still cleaner than using the suction cups. :-)

Wow, I haven't seen a Mike's mount thread here for a long time. For a while it seemed like everyone was installing it with invisicord for the mirror power.

It's a simple and clean setup for sure. I wish we could get away with having them here.

I used to have a mike's mount. I removed it and instead used the visor clip with a long invisicord. The detector on the mike's mount is just too visible from the outside imho. That is a huge break-in risk since I do not remove my detector at all. With the visor mount, you can't even see it and the performance is plenty good even if right at the margin of the windshield tint.

doesn't the rear facing sensor on top of the radar? if you use the visor clip, wouldn't that sensor be blocked?

Not a fan of it at all. I prefer to use the ones the radar detector comes with and mount it next to my RVM and right under the tint strip. It blocks more view having it mounted below the RVM. Plus, you get better performance mounting it higher, and also have less probability of people seeing it behind you, and easy to hide from cops. Also, like someone mentioned above, people will more likely to break in if it is too easily visible. It looks like it will be harder to remove the detector once it is mounted using Mike's mount, because you have to squeeze your fingers between Mike's mount and the mirror itself to remove the locking mechanism.

I've also hardwired my Escort Redline from my fusebox, so it is safer than using the cord to the mirror, drawing power from the actual mirror itself. That is the proper way to do it without risking damaging anything electrical, and also your radar detector. I used an add a fuse kit from Advance Auto for like $5.

Humm ... I don't use radar detector too often nowadays. I only use it for road trip or "as needed"

and taking it on and off takes me less than a minute maybe.

The mount worked for my purpose. and it works better than the suction cups. :)
