Problems after throttle body cleaning
 

Hi!
So i cleaned my throttle body. I didnt remove any harnesses or hoses. afterwards i got the mil light to come on and at idle(with car warmed up) it revs (up and down) from 1 k ~ 2K RPM.

1. i did the idle relearn thing
2. check the hoses and connections
3. drive it around for a few days
4. unplugged battery

So my question is, what else could it be?

This is why you should leave throttle body cleaning to the professionals...at least if something happens you could hold them liable...Plus, throttle body cleaning is unnecessary unless your engine really needs it.

I gave you my input. You already double posted and the people in the other thread are helping you. They're the ones who are probably more expert at it than posting in the general forum here.

check to see if the valve it stuck closed. when i cleaned mine, i had some issues and turned out that one of the throttle bodies had the valve stuck closed. removed the TBs, cleaning them again and reinstalled and no issues.

For all the ppl that are having problems w/ this, how are you guys fixing this and did it work? or did you go to the dealers to fix this problem.

I've heard that if you clean a drive by wire throttle body you should not push on the butterfly to open it to clean. Instead turn on ignition (dont start) and press on the gas pedal to open it.

If you have pushed on it unpowered it may have disturbed the correlation of throttle position and the butterfly - in effect the computer does not know how open or closed the throttle is in. In this case, a relearn of some sort is in order to restore correlation. (i know you did the idle relearn once maybe one more time after battery disconnect?)

^ fyi i always open the butterfly by hand and then just follow up with the relearn procedure which is supposed to/and does resets its position

I am thinking about just disconnecting the battery completely to trying to avoid this problem if that would help out.

Then find a dealer and hope they care enough to take the time to make the re-learn stick. Most dealers will take the easy way out and quote you new throttle bodies or ECU. I have a 2007 and this problem is what brought me to this site. So far, I have done the pedal dance until I felt really stupid. Then I took it to a dealer in Colma, CA, but $180 later they proved to be even more stupid. So after reading up on this myself, I learned that an ECU reflash is the next thing to try. Does anyone have recommendations for dealers ( specific technician perhaps) in the Bay Area?
Background: Problem (idle 2,000rpm-1500rpm surging ) occurred after gentle throttle body cleaning with battery disconnected and elect system discharged. Shame on me for cleaning a little dirt and carbon .

Follow up:
Eugene with Enthusiast auto care in Concord, CA was able to do in 1 hour what the knuckleheads at the dealer could not. No replacement of ECU or both throttle bodies needed (as dealer called out in my case.)


It's mind boggling that Nissan doesn't care enough to notify their dealers or customers about a proper fix for this. The 2007 models seem to have a particularly difficult time with this idle relearn problem.

No, throttle bodies are generally not damaged by a little cleaning and moving.

Never try to fix anything that isn't broke and it you don't know what you are doing leave the job to a pro

A mistake I've seen a lot with idle relearns is not having the vehicle in the proper state to perform it, the biggest culprit is not verifying the electric load switch (digital value in the ECM) is turned off. Even something simply like having the door open (or hood on some vehicles) sets the switch to the ON positions and you CANNOT perform the relearn if that switch is on.
