07 g35x doesn't want to go backwards

(reposting from another thread) When I put my car in reverse it seems different from any other car I have owned. You really have to give it some gas to get it to go and even then, it is slow. Is this a problem with my car, or is it normal for 2007 G35X?

Make sure your snow button is not on. This will cut your throttle response.

So on flat ground as soon as u hit reverse it doesn't move... at all unless u give it gas???

steve mc Nov 18, 2012 02:49 PM

Thanks for your comments and questions will and Red. The snow button is off. Also, it will roll backwards, just very slowly. For example I just tested it, and backed it out of the garage. From the flat garage, it went backwards, but had a little trouble when I went over the lip of the driveway. Then I tried to give it some gas, but not much response till I really pushed the throttle.

I don't think its normal. Mine is a 07 X as well, when I put my in reverse I don't give gas at all unless its a hill. I usually have to use the brake pedals when reversing in a parking lot.

^ mine same as sofa's

When u say really pushed the throttle, if the car was in drive and you pressed the same amount, will it lurch forward? R u flooring it?

Mine backs up slowly too.. but not any different from any other car. Its not supposed to back up fast being that you don't exactly wanna kill someone..... if there's a small bump right by the tire, my car would also need some gas.... just a tap though.

not normal..mine backs out pretty quick on its own

What is the cold start engine idle RPM and a minute after it warms ups?
Also, is there any chance your e-brake is stuck?

FWIW, my X was like what others have said. I didn't really need to touch the throttle to get the car moving in reverse or forward.

I am definitely not flooring it. But I am giving it more gas that I want to. My wife tells me that she notices that when she is turning the wheel is when it doesn't want to go backwards. Straight it goes, turning need to give it gas. She commented that last night she thought she was stuck in a parking spot because it wouldn't move. I think I will take it into the shop and see what they think.

new tranny

Took car to dealer, they saw transmission fluid looked burned, so they replaced the fluid. Car still didn't want to go backwards so they replaced the transmission.

Thankfully, still covered by 6yr 72k powertrain warranty.

Nice! Great news that you were able to get a replacement tranny out of the deal

Congrats on the good timing (before the PT warranty ran out)

.And good for Infiniti for standing behind it too!
