Door Not Opening from Both Sides?
 

Hello all,

My driver's side door isn't opening from the inside or outside even though it is unlocked. The door can still electronically unlock/lock fine, but it won't open. When I push the button on the door handle or engage the key, both are able to electronically lock/unlock the door. All the other doors are fine, and I definitely know the door isn't frozen because the door was operating normally and then five minutes later, it all went kaput.

Does anyone know what could the problem be? Is there a way to get the door open without drilling holes? I can't open the door, so it will be hard to remove the trim pieces.

had the same problem with my driver's side door the other day. i went inside (through the passenger door) and manually switched the door lock on the driver's side on and off a few times. when i say 'manually' i mean i physically switched the door lock thing back and forth a few times. after that, i tried opening the door from the inside, and it opened! problem hasn't happened again since. seems like it was a glitch.

Went to the body shop today and all they did was warm up the locks and it worked. It appears that the lock was indeed frozen, and once when I opened it, the ice made it stay in the locked position.

glad you got it figured out. I don't envy the weather that would make that happen. It's 70 and sunny here.

Probably would have to spend more than the value of the car per year just to keep it sitting in a garage.

This happened to me the other night, and it was embarrassing as hell. However, I was able to open it from the outside. :confused2::confused2::confused2:

I had this exact issue earlier this winter as well and its embarrassing as he!!. Talked to the Infiniti dealership and they said its a very common issue because of our door lock mechanism design when its exposed to moisture that freezes inside our doors.

Just be careful and don't yank continiously on the door which will break eventually it. The dealership had to replace someones door lock mechanism and it cost the customer $500 to replace it.

i had the same problem several times - and finally i went to Autozone and bought a small container of lock deicer. Not only did it solve the problem permanently - it also contains a lubricant to help prevent in the future. The container is about the size of a yellow highlighter and has a tip that fits into the key hole on the door. Used it once - never had the problem again - even during the big freeze we had here a week or so ago

I've had this happen to me 4 times this winter on the drivers door, the door wont open or when it does I can't get it to shut, I have to try 5-6 times to shut it then once it latches shut.. its stuck, the door cant be opened from inside or out, the handles on the outside/inside lose resistance but the locks still operate. Once the cabin warms up, they function again.

I'm gonna try the lock deicer, if that doesn't work.. would taking the door panel off and spraying silicone lube on the cables/actuator help?

Mine just did the same thing tonight! I will try a hair dryer and blow on the outside door handle and the panel around the lock. Hope it works.

Update: hair dryer did not work. :mad:

How did that work out? I tried the lock deicer.. Didn't to help work for me. My driver side door was frozen again this morning and thawed out on the way to work and will probably be frozen again when I leave..I don't want to have to deal with this every winter..I'm probably gonna take it in to a shop and have them check it out.
