Tinted tail options?
What options are there to tint the tail lights on the sedan?
|
You can paint em, use a tint tape, or buy bluebatmobile overlays. The overlays are so nice for the V36.
Good luck! |
Painting looks best if done properly, here's my DIY for a GTR style painted taillight, and I can send stick-on templates if you're interested

Remove the tails and then get a spray can of Nite Shades and Clear coat. It'll turn out really good. Some good videos on Youtube if you search.
Vinyl overlays are not easy to install at all. I have applied tint to windows before but applying overlays must involve a whole different skill set because I botched my attempt--big waste of time and money. Couple coats of Nite Shade and clear coat is much easier IMHO. |

Painted tails (body color) look the best, do a Search there are several DIY threads showing you what they look like and how it's done...Gary

Did mine with niteshade and got a local body shop to do a couple of clear coats on it. I feel like clear coats brought from store is not thick and shiny enough. I wanted the thick enamel look.
|
your best option is to not tint them.

I have a white G with black wheels and the tails to me just seem to stick out.

The Krylons, Rustoleums, etc aren't a good option for a pro quality job. |

Agree, the cans you buy from auto paint supply places for cut-in of door panels are a good clear coat for the tails, goes on thick and buffs to a factory shine, I used Dupont Acrylic Clear A-7480s, also good options are Evercoat Cut-in-Clear, Spraymax 2k cut-in-clear.

I don't have any experience with painting them but want mine easily reversible in the future if needed, or if I didn't like it. I got all my Vinyl from Don Nguyen (on lots of forums and here) since I knew the product would be good.
I did it myself and turned out real nice. Smooth and shiny. A little wavy texture on the surface up close but not noticeable to anyone really. Definitely cuts out some of the sharp red that was distracting to me. I used the lightest tint shade. You definitely need a heat gun to get it to form around the sedans curves properly. You can see the difference on the two sides below, then again on the right tail with the truck piece not tinted. Its not ricey and with the black roof(props) it flows great. Only thing I don't get is , how is the red distracting to you?!!?!!!! Lol |
