Click from door or b-pillar when coming to a stop
I have a n '07 G35S. Lately, whenever I come to stop, I hear a light click/tick/creak (singular) from what sounds like the top rear part of the front door/panel, b-pillar, and window area. I took the door panel off and nothing looked amiss, so I snugged various screws that were a little loose and put felt tape on contact points. No change. I can't recreate the sound by rattling or pushing on things. Any ideas what this is? Otherwise, it's largely rattle-free inside, and this is a bit irritating.
Thanks. |
Wild guess here but maybe it's the belt tensioner that, in many cars, uses a pendulum-like mechanism that swings and hooks the belt during hard braking. Looking at the parts diagram though, the only thing up high is the belt adjuster. The tensioner is down at the floor of the car.

Do you have a sunroof?

Thanks for the replies. I thought about the belt tensioner, and may still pop off the trim down there to see, but it sounds like it's high up. Then again, sounds travel in weird ways. It does this in light braking as well. The belt adjuster appears solid.
Yep, I have a sunroof. |
There's a really good chance the sound is actually coming from the sunroof, it's been a problem for folks in the past that the fasteners loosen and start to make that sound.

I checked as much as I could all around an in the sunroof, and nothing seems amiss. Does something get loose in an inaccessible area? There's no change in the noise with the roof open, closed, or popped. I'll dig around some more.

Just wondering if this is one of those weird cases where the sound sounds like it's coming from one place but is really coming from somewhere else....
