07 G35 dipstick reading over H?
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/g35driv...8610ab6de.jpeg Can’t really see but if you look carefully the dipstick is covered in oil... should I be worried? Anybody know why my oil dipstick isn’t reading after engine is warm? It reads correctly before I turn the engine is warm but after the dipstick is covered in oil... did oil change about 1500k miles ago so I know im not over.. what f*** is going on??? |
Check your oil first thing in the morning before the engine has been started for the day, it's 100% fool-proof reading.

Holy damn! I've never seen it that high lol. Wipe it off conpletely. Put it back in. Let the car sit overnight and check it again in the morning. |
If you ran the engine AT ALL before checking the oil then it's completely normal. That's why I strongly recommend only checking the oil level on a cold motor.
Usually the only time you start getting more oil volume on a gasoline motor is if you blow the HG and it fills the crankcase with oil. Deisel engines it's semi-common depending on the motor because blowby fuel ends up in the crankcase. |
It's a known fact that on the first gen VQDE motors it's useless to check the stick when the engine's hot because oil is all over the dipstick. Cleric has great advice as I suspect the HR motors have the same issue. Also I've moved this thread to the appropriate place, the sub-forum you postedit in specifically says at the top in bold red print "No Car Questions". ;)

I have the coupe.. still a 35DE, I believe only the sedan came with the HR in ‘07... checked oil this morning and looks normal, appreciate everyone for the advice! |
@Hall Stevenson lol that's awesome. He probably had 20 years experience working at the parts counter and zero experience checking oil level.

this is what it says in the manual:
"CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. 2. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature. 3. Turn off the engine. Wait more than 15 minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan. 4. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert it all the way." so its not too crazy what the guy said. but me i do it in the morning |
Yeap, I know the manual says that but the reality is, it's just not practical. From the convenience side of things, there's no way they're going to suggest "allow the vehicle to sit for 1 hour or longer before checking the level".

I wish they would.
