Yep, out of curiosity how well have you stuck to the recommended maintenance schedule and what (if any) parts have you needed to replace?
|
I have changed all fluids including brake power steering Tranny and rear end at recommended intervals. Use Mobil 1 and dont take it over 4K in crankcase. I have evacuated and recharged my A/C every 100k..
I have replaced a starter, front hubs/ wheel bearings, struts/shocks, brakes (of course) but I replace the rotors at every brake change average 70K both front and rear. Replaced calipers all around one time, 1 drive belt replacement, 2 batteries 1 set of battery cables. When weather warms up I am going to detail inside and out including engine compartment. Had it done a couple of times but saw a video on you tube and now I have the fever again to do it myself!!! Needs new headlights because they are old and yellow but paint is near perfect despite living life in the HOT GA sun. Never been wrecked of course and little to no rust issues. Just spent the money for new plugs as it is coming up on 105K since last tune up. (waited till 155K for first tune up) NEED SOME ADVICE on what plugs to get because I forgot which ones I got last time and I have a local mechanic do it. NGK Iridium 1406 I think..... |
ONE MORE thing....I burn only hi test in the car. Cost more but I have not had as much as stall ever. Forgot to mention replaced all radiator hoses including those going to the heater core one time.
|
The OEM plugs for the HR motor was Denso FXE22HR11, NGK 1406 (part number FXE22HR11) is their OEM equivalent version. Both are great plugs.
I haven't heard anyone call premium gas "high test" in about two decades lol. |
Thank you sir so very much for your help with the plugs. I have followed your advice often on this forum. Now on to the mechanics for a well deserved tune up. After that I am going to detail my G. I think I will take before and after pictures.

Wow great to see a high mileage car without the gallery gasket issue. I try not to think about it, but its always in the back of my head

Z1 Motorsports makes a nice inexpensive metal one if you want a permanent solution.
|
That's the one I bought, just waiting until I flush the system to install it.
|
That's pretty good! I can believe it, but I would guess the first major issue when it happens would be the tranny wearing out. I would love to have a 07'-08' but they were a little too expensive at the time so I ended up with the V35 platform. Of course now I see the V36 cars everywhere cheap... People must be worried about them with 160-180k miles haha (hopefully they don't read your thread before I pick one up)
I thought I was getting old but I never remember High test... I do remember leaded (regular) fuel when I was a kid. |
Yep I'm with @scumbagsleeper the tranny is a bigger issue than the engine.
Gotta love a |
Does the 08 G35 with the 5AT have a CVT transmission? I suspect the first major issue I will face is in fact going to be the transmission. All is good now however.

They were offered with a CVT in some overseas markets equipped on the Skyline 350 GT8 for the V35 platform, V36 never got a CVT.
