Partial Tach Light Dysfunction
Just drove off the lot after buying my very first car! It has a lot of miles, but seemed healthy. Any fix for this?https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/g35driv...687882882.jpeg |
Honestly I would have turned right back around and asked the car lot you purchased it from. Probably going to require a new combination meter.

Yeah I doubt they will, do a google search for instrument cluster lights on those vehicles. Semi-common issue.
Does the vehicle have a clean title or a salvage one? |
It's a clean title. And yeah if it's absolutely necessary, I'll probably replace it. But it doesn't seem too bad for now. Front right headlight has a blown bulb too, as well as headlight leak, but overall the car seems fine, the tpms sensor also won't go off. |
Yeah it looks like something you can live with for a while until you find a good price on a replacement.
https://nicoclub.com/archives/infini...e-manuals.html Check out section MWI at the very end of the section for removal of the combination meter. It's not too hard and they cost about $100 on eBay Swap headlights from one side to the other to verify the problem is the bulb and not the ballast. Since it's leaking its HIGHLY likely it's the bulb and you definitely want to replace the entire assembly on that side. Unfortunately light assemblies are pretty expensive so this will likely be a couple hundred bucks. Section EXL for removal of the lamp, the assembly, etc. Section WT page 77 has the flash chart for the TPMS system so you can see what the problem is. |
Any other issues with the vehicle you can start with the FWD document and find the appropriate part of the FSM.

Can't really tell in the pic but I'm assuming the light in the needle is dim towards the tip? Same thing happened to my speedometer needle. Started intermittently but now it's constant. The light probably came loose from the board

Sounds good, I'll check the bulbs today |
Swap ballasts and see if the problem switches to the other side. Then you're only replacing a ballast instead of troubleshooting out an electrical issue.

When I say SWAP, I mean take the two components already on the vehicle and swap them to the other side, that way you are taking an item you KNOW WORKS and testing it on the side not working. Also you won't be throwing money and parts at the problem hoping something finally works.
