keys, power locks, cruise doesn't work.
work, key starts car when in slot. My question is, if I get the BCM and install it in my garage, how do I reprogram it? Do I take the BCM itself to my local Infiniti dealer? Or do the keys do this? I found out it's in the passenger footwell, is there an easy way to find out how to get the trim off to get to it? Tried the FSM and it was not specific enough

It's just the typical ECM registration process, I'd call ahead to Nissan and tell them you want to drive down, swap the BCM in the parking lot, have them program the ECM. Typically it's only a 1 hour labor charge and make sure to bring all your keys with you because they will all need to be programmed at once.
You definitely need to do more troubleshooting before you write off the BCM as being bad. Disconnect the BCM harness and the lock switch harness on the driver door and ring out the wires, it's not uncommon for them to break right where the accordion section meets the chassis. Cruise control common failure point is the switch at the top of the clutch pedal. Sometimes the steering wheel spiral cable / clock spring. Do the rest of your steering wheel control buttons work including the turn signal and wiper arms, does ANYTHING not besides the cruise and set buttons? |
Definitely make for sure what the problems is. They will charge you the hourly rate fix or no fix. I just had to have a 08' G35x car reprogrammed last month and Nissan wouldn't touch it so I had to go to Infiniti. They won't compete with each other anymore.

I guess when I set my cruise control doesn't work the cruise on button works but will never let me set it. My keys, I've replaced both the batteries in them will not lock the door, they will not start the car. (Unless slotted) Everything else about the car seems to work. I still can't figure out how that trim is supposed to be taken off. and I have serious doubts about my Infiniti dealer letting me change the PCM in that parking lot they tell me some run around about how their insurance doesn't cover that or something.

Scumbag, from what I've seen if there isn't a local Infiniti dealership then the Nissan one will do pretty much everything, but yeah like you said if you have BOTH in the same area then they will send you to Infiniti. Nearest Infiniti is 2 hours away for me and I've never had Nissan tell me to go to them.
@LeviK if you just can't get the cruise to SET then I doubt it's a BCM issue (it still could be but I doubt it). There's a lot of systems that have to give the green light to the BCM to turn on the CC, do you have the newer intelligent cruise system (self-regulates speed when you have a vehicle in front of you) ?? Here's a link to the factory service manual FSM. I strongly recommend you download all the documents and keep a copy for yourself. Everything starts at FWD - Forward https://www.nicoclub.com/archives/in...e-manuals.html If you DO have the ICC system check the laser unit at the bumper to make sure it's not damaged or has a bunch of mud or a leaf stuck on the front of it. You definitely CANNOT engage the system if it cannot see forward. I also know that newer Infiniti ICC systems you CANNOT set the cruise control if the windshield wipers are on low or high. You can still set it with them set on intermittent wiper though, not totally sure if this "feature" was on the V36 platform yet but it probably was. |
As for the keys, first I would try to have them programmed at a locksmith that can do Nissan's, call around. Tell them it might be some other issue but you would like to have them TRY to program the keys. Hopefully they wouldn't charge you the full rate if they cannot, and it will be cheaper than having this done at Nissan/Infiniti.
Sometimes these BCM's just have a heart attack and forget the transponder ID's, not sure why but it's been known to happen. If they can connect to the BCM but cannot complete the key registration then it might just be your keys have both failed, I would purchase one more iKey fob and see if it can be programmed, if not then it could be any number of things, including the BCM itself but since it WILL START when the transponder is manually slotted I'm thinking it's more of an iKey antenna issue. Not totally sure where the cabin antenna is but I think it's on the driver side behind the glove box. Either way I would treat these as two separate issues until you've done a lot more troubleshooting. |
Also, it's worth disconnecting the battery and thoroughly cleaning both lugs/posts. Has the vehicle ever had any other problems in the past?
EDIT: It's free, and sometimes the whole "have you tried resetting the power" actually works. Disconnect the battery, pump the brakes a couple times to drain residual current, wait 10min, hook battery back up. |
Some updates. Cruise started working again. Everything works now but the keys. Reset the ecu, to no avail. Might just need to reprogram them:(. All my windows work, my locks work with the physical metal key and open all 4 doors. I guess my biggest confusion is the fact that they don't lock nor start the damn car. Unless it's in the damn slot. Just so odd that it lost both my keys even though one I keep in a damn drawer.

Inspect your BCM for any water damage, pay particular attention to the harness and look for any water spotting where it's dried and left a mark.
|
I don't know how to get the plastic trim off, definitely stuck. :(

Went to a local locksmith. Dude programmed both my keys for 5 bucks. Although he also prefaced by saying it'll never be 5 bucks again. Regardless. If this happens to you. Try a key reprogram first!

Wow what a deal lol.
So you're still working on the cruise control issue yes? EDIT: Just make sure that ANY TIME you are doing any electrical work, including unplugging harnesses, fuses, relays, and such that you always disconnect the battery first. |
The cruise fixed itself. Funny you mention that, j ****ed up my dad's grand caravan throttle body that way while doing his spark plugs. :/ Sucks to suck. But yeah my Infiniti is back to normal
