08 Sedan Won't Crank
Just tried to turn on my car after an hour drive and it wouldn't start. Break pedal got super stiff and it can be barely pressed down in order to try to start the car. I tried pressing the break down and button in order to start but now it makes zero noise, doesn't even try to turn over now. Charged the battery and it didn't work, got a new intersate battery from costco as the previous one was old anyways and it still didn't work. Looked on the forums and online for people with similar issues and most of them got it resolved by getting a new battery. Not sure if theres a way to gert the brake pedal to be engnage in order for it to start.
Any help would be appreciated. |
Could be the relay for the brake interlock, or something with the switch that's engaged by pressing the brake pedal (which actually takes very little movement to actuate). I've had the brake pedal get pretty stiff like that before, but never to the point that it wouldn't let me start the car. My wife had an issue with her car that ended up being the crankshaft position sensor that was causing the exact same thing, wouldn't even try to start.

Sounds like your starter is dead. Replace it.
If you have AWD you'll have to remove the U-joint for clearance. If you have a RWD it's a bit easier, it can pass through. |
I would remove and bench test the starter.
If it does still work then something on your ignition circuit is preventing start. EDIT: If it miraculously starts up again after cooling down for a few hours then it's definitely the starter, that's a symptom of a failing starter solenoid. Fail to start when hot but does start when cold. |
Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah the issue ended up being the starter and everything is working perfectly fine since it got replaced!

Excellent news! :)

What brand starter did you buy?
|
I went through the same except, I bought a $20 battery repair-conditioner. It turned out to be the Positive side battery cable connector. It was badly rusted and dirty. I cleaned it with baking soda, water, and a vibrating toothbrush. Cleaning didn't do it, getting the new + side battery connector worked.
