Even links aren't safe from IB redirecting to another site now. WTF.
The amount of in-line text links in posts seems to be growing, and when you've got a post that's specifically set up to link people to the exact parts they need and there's hyperlinks every time you say Metra Double Din Kit or even just Metra or JDM Trim or ASWC-1 that don't link them to the exact part they're supposed to be looking for it's pretty damn confusing for the people trying to get what they want.
There's more links to generic searches on wal-mart, ebay and dealtime right now than the ones that take you to what you actually need on the Double Din Shopping List. It's bad enough in regular posts, but these things are getting inserted into private messages too. Saying "antenna adapter" in my double din shopping list was linking to one that isn't even for our cars (edit: now it's doing in this post too *sigh* ) At this point, I'm just going to have to try and break up the keywords in order to maintain the integrity of the information within the post. In the 2003-2004 section alone, you encountered 10 links that all take you to the wrong damn thing, more bad links than there are parts you need. And for reference, I didn't make any links in this posts, they're all the "sponsored" links getting inserted automatically. |
I haven't seen in text links in a long time, I'm not a premier member.

I can put up with them, they aggravate me, but NOTHING is worse than AUTO PLAY adverts that blast sound while you are trying to watch a vid or just quietly reading a post.

Anyway, they seem to have been turned off, but I'm still going to leave the modifications to avoid keyword linking just to protect it in case it gets turned back on. |
hmmm i feel like im missing something, havent seen any in line text links. maybe my adblock as been blocking hem all. it always shows like 10 things blocked and im like what the hell is it blocking.

When IB first took over it was horrible, lots of little green words in text and when you mouse over them a box would pop up with an ad.
I can't believe nobody has spanked our wrists over talking about IB, they sure have done it to me. |
ya i used to see the links a ton a while back. i cant remember the last time i saw them tho. they would bug the **** out of me also.
|
If you are not a member you get those in line ads... It's horrible on mobile (takes up screen and you can't browse).
|
Yeah, I remember the green double-underlined links, but at least they were visually distinct, the ones that made me make the post were indistinguishable from regular links. Just a single black underline.

Digging this back up, because it's now completely changing links. User posted a link to an adapter on crutchfield, and it changed it an amazon link. Does the amazon link go to the same product? Maybe.
Check it out here: https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...ml#post6972372 You can quote or edit the linked post to see how it changed from on crutchfield to amazon. This item *might* be linking to the same product elsewhere, but between taking words like bose amp, trim kit and wiring harness and making it look like I've linked to (and recommended) a product and this, the integrity of any post is getting in question. Am I going to have to start just posting images of the text I REALLY want to say in order to inadvertently sending people to the wrong products? I get it that these type of links, in addition to the graphic ads and such keep the board running, and I don't care if I make a a quick link to amazon or crutchfield that they throw their referral code onto, but this is getting out of hand. |
Ok, that's wild. I opened the page, the link said "crutchfield" and then just changed to Amazon in front of me as my cursor went over the link.

Clicked on link, locked up my computer....

Hey guys,
I've never seen or noticed this was occurring, I'll find out what is going, thanks! Bob |
Update:
This feature was not turned on or approved by the IB Automotive Community Managers and they are having it removed ASAP. We are not sure if this is a new feature of VigLink or something else and I can say unequivocally it is the dumbest new feature I have seen in 12 years of website administration. Thank you all for letting us know. Bob |
