You can't convert it to USD like that, though...we pay the equivalent of up to $10,000 CAD MORE than the Americans for a comparably equipped G35. Lucky for them, their prices should be much lower than ours.

That's one advantage of living 10 minutes away from the US border ...

But yes ... I can't believe how greedy the corporate is ... but then again, with how variable the currency exchange is ... it's hard to blame them to "price" a car to the US$1 = C$1.25 ... (roughly) It does cost more to make a different speedo, stickers in French/English, print a (non-Spanish) bilingual owner's manual, etc. Plus it's just overall more expensive to live here.

Has anyone heard about the showing of the new G yet?

 

It's good news the new '08 looks like lower prices than the '07. The bad news is Canadians continue to overpay for their cars compared to our US neighbours. In the current currency environment no doubt that will hurt Canadian dealers and our overall economy when Canucks shop south of the border.

 

Wish I could confirm exact prices in USD for you...we generally get them before the dealers, but no word yet.

Just as an example of the conversion, though...my car (2007 Coupe with Sport M6 package - no nav or 4WAS) was a total MSRP of $50,885 CAD. A comparably equipped model in USD is $37,450...so, with the current exchange rate, roughly $10,000 CAD less.

Might explain why the median age for ownership in the U.S. seems to be considerably lower than up here in Canada...

 

The 2007 G35 Coupe had 4WAS? I agree with you on the Canadian ownership age though, you typically won't see the bulk of the younger (< 30) crowd driving this car until well into the production years when used car prices get into the $30's. Right now the G35C is very common because prices have made it very attainable for the majority of the market. It pains me to see what we could afford in the US for $50K+, but I think manufacturers are really trying to bite down on this with warranty restrictions, much like what they tried to do when US customers were importing from Canada when the US dollar was strong.

That is a definite yes. Besides ... up here, it seems if you're going to buy / drive a C$50k car, you might as well drive a BMW -- take a look at the roads in Toronto ... everyone and their mother drives a BMW.
