Oem Non-Navi to Oem Navi swap possible
 

For those who wants some confirmation to a navi swap to a non navi car...and to those who referred you to Garmin, and other aftermarket equipment..
its possible guys and girls...
Over the weekend I grew some balls and took apart my 2011 g37. I already had the parts to do the swap...
1) 2010-2011 navigation screen
2) 2010-2011 Av unit
3) 2010-2011 bezel (top buttons)
4) 2010-2011 face plate (think you can use your stock one)
5) 2010-2011 GPS ANTENNA (MUST)
6) And most importantly 2010-2011 navigation harness, ie plug, pigtails from the back of the unit...

I also didn't have the "BOSE" system on my car which made the install a little difficult...
My car did have the back up camera which works fine..
the bad- XM radio doesn't work...which I don't use anyways...
Ipod works, dvd works, navigation works, music box...it works...

if you are planning to do this in the future..refer to
nicoclub.com/fsm "AV" Unit sections for the wiring diagrams. for your vehicle and the vehicle with Navigation and BOSE.

Unfortunately I don't have a "DIY" for this.

Sweet. I personally wouldnt do it but it's good someone had the balls to do this.

Was the cost worth it or would you go a diffferent route 2nd time around?

I actually love it. OEM upgrades are always beneficial to the value of your car vs. aftermarket parts. So it was definitely worth the cost.

I'm definitely giving you props for doing this so don't get me wrong but I would sooner think this lowers the value of the car since this was not factory/dealer installed and because you had to cut your OEM harness and also because XM no longer works. This brings into question the quality and long term reliability. Privately you would make money off of it but highly doubt it would fly at the dealer if you traded it in. I could be wrong though.

Again, i'm not busting your balls since i'm a DIYer myself, but just being realistic.

Your right its all about the "quality" of the install. I'm really not done with the install, coupe of things I still need to iron out. I didn't really need the XM radio, so I didnt care to install (its on my todo's list tho lol)
I was trying to give some people some hope of trying to attempt this just for the Navi feature which I wanted. Much Appreciated tho:biggthumpup:

I'm definitely glad you did it. It confirms that it's possible with the right parts but just a lot of work to achieve. Do you recall how many hours you spent on the install? It definitely worked out since you had the pigtails for the harnesses and the fact that you already had the camera installed. To install the yaw sensor and camera control unit is just another headache all together.

I probably spent like around 10 hours if that. Its just the little things that are really tedious and time consuming.
Yea the camera would be another headache...I noticed on the new AV unit there is a feature that you can change on the camera options--No camera, side camera, and rear camera..So I can see that whomever made the unit had other options for the car.
