Painted Headlight with Demon Eye + Painted Grill and Emblem

Hey everyone. I have a mainly stock G but one of the things I have really wanted to get done were my headlights. I have an 04 but I upgraded the lights to 06-07 projectors a year ago. Then I added Phillips 6K Ultinons to it. After that, I haven't done any modding besides the TS hood a few weeks back.

I know the color scheme is played out, but I don't think any other color combo's with red would look as good. They are flat black with laser red projector shroud. The difference between these and the ones you always see is that only the actual shroud is painted red (*See pics 3 and 4). The other half leading to the shroud is flat black. I think this is the first headlight done this way since its harder to tape up and paint than to paint the whole piece. I left the fog reflectors alone since I actually want them to function. Chris did an awesome job.

2. Excuse the hood. It still needs work to be perfect.

It didnt occur to me to get any LED work done to them until i realized that I had the LED mad scientist, Chris(the04coupe), working on my headlights. So I had to get a little something done ;) . I had a budget for this project, so I didnt want to go too crazy with the LED work. I decided to do a red "demon eye".

To do this, usually an LED is place behind the projector lens and wired up to the daytime running lights. The problem with that is, the heat causes the LED to burn out. On my headlights, Chris used not only 1, but 4 LEDs and instead of seating it behind the projector lens, he installed them on the outside of the projector lens. Not only are they brighter than the 1 led version demon eyes, but they create a neat "cross-hair" effect when viewed. Also, the LEDs used are similar in output to the stock tail light LEDs. So they're bright :D .

They're also wired up with a voltage regulator to ensure long life for the LEDs. They essentially ensure that the LEDs have constant 12v power. What people don't realize is that when the car is on, it delivers 12v power, but when the car is off it fluctuates to 14.4. This difference in voltage can cause the LED to burn out sooner than desired.

While I was at it, I had the grill painted flat black as well with a laser red emblem. Pretty much standard to all others who did this combo with their grills. Floating emblem and flat black base.

I also had my rear emblem painted flat black, but I didn't buy the 3M tape to install it yet. So no pictures of that installed. But heres the emblem.

Sorry, I don't have any full shots of the car either as there are a few other things I want to get done before I show it off.

Thanks to the few of you who will have actually read through my ramblings and also thanks to those who just skimmed through for pictures. Lol.

Thanks for Chris for a great job on the paint and leds.

And yes, I just wrote a page to show off my painted headlights.

Thanks dude. The LED's are only visible with the parking lights. When the low beam is on, you can only see the actual led itself only. Not light emitted since the low beams are much more bright.

Nice job!
And whatever you adjusted on the hood, looks like the gap is right now.

erklep 11-10-2010 11:02 PM

cant say youre the first to do this, doubt i was either. i did a set for a customer last winter that are identical except i used gloss black.http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...h_DSC02238.jpg

they look really good on LR though. the set i did went on an IP that had cf and red accents.member 732_IP_G35c

Frankieg35 11-10-2010 11:09 PM

They came out good erik but i think they would look better on another color than IP..
