Ricer Boy G35 Progress

I'm fairly bored, so I figured I would share my journey with my G so far. Berta (ugly name I know) was purchased on October 31 of 2014, so I've had the car for a little over 2 years. To be an 18 year old kid, now 20, I feel that I've done a decent amount of work to my car. I bought (what I thought) was a stock OB 6mt Brembo G35. I had been looking for a 6mt, black interior and brembo package car for a while, and this one struck my eye. After the short 1 hour drive to Charlotte, and a quick test drive later, the car was mine. I was in love, but soon the mod bug got me, and I wanted to do more and more.

This is how I got her. 4x4 stance, and nice 3 piece Works. For Christmas my parents bought me an eBay exhaust (I know, don't tell me...)

Fast forward to March of 2015. The VS-XX were in pretty bad condition despite the pictures. They needed to be dissassmbled and fixed. I didn't feel like doing this, so I sold them for a solid $2400. This gave me the funds to purchase some Varrstoen ES6 wheels and still have some left over.

The faded and chipped calipers annoyed me, so I painted them with VHT "Burnt Copper" engine mettallic, along with some black brembo stickers. Came out quite nice.

The 4x4 height was killing me, so I lowered it 3 diff times. This is when I found out the car had the HKS suspension, full SPC camber kit, and a plenum spacer!

Got tired of the chrome headlights, and lowered her again (last pic is maxed out low)

I failed to mention that I also rolled my own rear fenders, and I royally screwed them up. So much bacon, I hated it. Summer of 2016, I had a full time job and had been saving my money quite well. I decided that I wanted a different color on the car, and figured I would fix the rears while I was at it. You can probably guess where this is headed...

WRAP TIME. Took me probably ~40 hours total since I was alone.

I was loving the color. Only spent $385 for the wrap, and it came out pretty nice for a 19 year old kid with no wrapping experience. I left the roof and the "diffuser" part of the rear bumper the original OB. Not a week after wrapping it, I was once again tired of the height (and the rake). Sold the HKS suspension, and bought a used true coilover Megan setup. On the ground she goes!

Now that I'm on my 2nd year of college, I don't really have a place to work on my car like I'd like. Despite all the purchases to the car, everything (up to this point) has been funded by selling something that came with the car when I bought it. VS-XX's were sold for the Varrs and tires, stock 18" wheels were sold for the wrap, HKS suspension funded the Megan and "moar low", and some SS braided brake lines funded a steering wheel "cover" and a NISMO shift boot, as well as white LED interior lights and other small stuff. I was loving had far Berta had come.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/g35driv...0f49a5a369.jpg

But there was just something missing. I understand the stigma behind real wheels, and ever since I sold the Works I was yearning for some more real wheels. I'm obviously not about the "functional" level of low, nor do I really care about the functional "stance" either. I don't like CamberGang levels, but I dig -4 ish degrees of camber. After much convincing to my father, I jumped on a deal for some Weds Cerberus II wheels. 19x10,5 front and 19x11 rear. Nothing super crazy, but it will be "stanced." Only pic I have of the car with the wheels on a for a test fit. Had to order a studs and a 20mm spacer for the fronts so they would clear, but My God I am in love all over again. This isn't everyones style, but it's what I like so I'm going to rock it.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/g35driv...64eb8e3d66.jpg

And that is pretty much the journey so far with my G. In 2 weeks the Weds will be mounted, and I couldn't be more excited. Sorry for the pic whoring, I had time just choosing the ones I did. From an 18 year old kid who bought a stock height, OB 93k miles G35; to now a 20 year old kid with a low, midnight blue G35 with 114k on the clock. I wouldn't dare trade this car for anything. Still more to come too.

Chrome lights looked better when black, but I like the lights black with the blue.

So, those new rims..did you recently get picked up by the NBA or obtain a record contract for your rap album?

I got them for a freaking steal! The lips are brand new but the faces and barrels are OEM. That being said, the faces could definitely use a strip and powder coat, but they're good enough to go on the car as is. I only paid $1500 for them, which isn't bad considering how much comparable sets go for.

nice progression. Clean work

Nice to see someone do their own work! Noted that I will not be wrapping my own car :).

What happened to that eBay exhaust OP...?

Also, next time you have the headlights open color mod the OEM projectors. A guide can be found here. They have so much more light to be had.

Wrapping isn't hard, it just takes A LOT of time and patience. I would do it again if needed. As for the eBay exhaust, with the Z1 test pipes, it was just too much. Swapped it out for the stock exhaust and did a muffler delete. Sounds much better IMO. And sometime near Christmas I am going to get a Demon Eye kit, so I will re-open the lights for that; I might just do the mod.

Car is looking good. I thought the original setup was clean, but it looks nice with the blue wrap. Interested to see how the new wheels will look/fit on the car.

Thanks man! I'm anxious to see them also, hope it isn't too crazy.

Well, sticking too to the thread name (and opposite of my above post), I got the wheels mounted. Rear is too aggressive for my liking, but I have to wait until I can buy smaller tires for a bit of a stretch. That 275/35 on the rear is huge and was almost impossible to get it to tuck. Guess the camber...

You should stretch the rears more and get more positive camber... It looks broken with that much negative camber!

I know, sadly I gotta wait for those wide *** tires to wear down and then I'll put a 255 on it. Im at -8.5* with that 275, so a stretch will definitely bring that number down a good amount.

Frankieg35 12-19-2016 05:19 PM

Take tires off and sell them, why wait?

No one is gonna buy a 275 with camber wear and sidewalls chewed up. Rears were wearing oddly before I had them put on these wheels, so I flipped them.

Conissah 02-08-2017 09:40 AM

Time for an update. Work and school keep me busy but I found time to head to my buddies shop and get my 255 rears put on. They're a little tall at a 40 series, but the small stretch gave me way more clearance and now I can actually go over bumps without rubbing. With the older setup I also couldn't do 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear pulls because the tires were rubbing. Also I don't think I mentioned this last time, but with the 275s in the rear, the driver side cleared at -8.2 degrees but the passenger needed a whole -9.7 for some unknown reason. With the new tires they are both even, and the car drives much better. Overall I still need smaller tires, but these will work for now!
