Shorted reverse light, Now car won't start!!!

I accidentally created a short in my reverse light wire and now the car won't start and I'm getting the U100 and U1001 codes. Appreciate any help right about now.

is it a blown relay or something?

TwilightSedan 12-03-2011 06:00 PM

No one?

05_SkylineSedan 12-03-2011 11:33 PM

What year? For 05-06 AT the back-up light relay is in the block near the battery - but that shouldn't cause a no-start situation.
A blown fuse or two certainly could, and that's likely what happened. Check 'em out starting with the big ones in the engine compartment... (fix the short first!)
Good luck

it's an 03, I tried goin over the fuses. I'll go over them again.

TwilightSedan 12-04-2011 12:25 AM

oh and I shorted the reverse light myself testing so there is no short left. All the cars electrical works but the car won't engage ignition. The gear position display is blank too. Still showing the odometer on the other side though.

Just need someones knowledge on the cause for these symptoms. Not sure if it's a gear sensor, a fuse or the reverse lamp relay.

Gear position display out
Car turning to acc and on position and electrical all fine.
Car not engaging ignition.
Took place after improperly testing reverse light wire with multimeter while car was on.
showing codes U100 and U1001 now

Sounds like one of those really technical problems I may have caused by doing a number of things like shorting the reverse light while the car is on and engaged in reverse. I think I did something I shouldn't have done and hopefully it's a sensor or fuse. Odds are it's going to be a bitch unless I can pinpoint the problem without too much pain.

Sorry, I only have 05/06 manuals but I think you can grab one for your car here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/faq-diy...e-manuals.html
Also, maybe somebody here knows the fault codes...
Fuse trouble makes the most sense (and means the least trouble for you) so you gotta start there. 05/06 has fuses in 3 different places - two blocks near the battery and one inside near the driver's leg. Your service manual should be able to tell you which fuses are involved but it takes some digging. Hope you can find it!

Thanks for the info. Those manuals are awesome. The hunt continues today. I'm going to scour those fuses one by one today. I just have a feeling that I may have blown a sensor, a relay or the TCM itself because the car was on and engaged in gear. Although there would still be a fuse between those components and the reverse light. I mean really, does this mean if your reverse light wire shorts while you're driving somewhere and you turn your car off it won't start back up? There really isn't a protective fuse to keep that from happening? I find that hard to believe. We'll see. I'm going to be all over every fuse today.

Checked the fuses, all seem fine except the power socket fuse and that's always been out.

Anyone have a part number the big blue reverse lamp relay in the fuse box under the hood for the 03 g35 sedan?

You may have shorted your ECU. I am waiting on a call from my brother, who works for Nissan, to see what he says.

PAIXAO 12-04-2011 12:07 PM

Per my brother: codes mean CAN communication problem. Your ECU is not communicating. Check the ECU port pins.
