Can you help me understand the Dealer's Recommendations
 

I went to the Cerritos Infiniti for my oil change (hopped on the 2fer oil change deal) and they gave me a big list of recommendations I need for my car.

Can you guys explain what exactly the services actually are (specifically) and what I can do myself, go to a mechanic, etc. :dunno:

I guess I would consider myself an experienced beginner in terms of DIY skills, but I can learn pretty quickly.

Here's the list that they gave to me:
Micron filter (What is that?)
Transmission service (Flush??)
Coolant Service
Power Steering Fluid Ex... (Don't know if it got cut off or what the "Ex" stands for)
Differential Service
Fuel Injection Cleaning
Throttle Body Service

A micron filter is your cabin air filter. It can be replaced pretty easily. Here's a DIY video.

Don't know exactly what they perform on the other services recommended but I'm sure someone will chime in soon.

Oh ok thanks. I thought it was that, but when I saw "Micron" I wasnt so sure.

search online for DIYs and do as much as you can yourself. do get OEM parts if possible. I recently had a noisy belt and i replaced them myself. the dealer wanted $260. OEM belts were only 35 dollars the rest was labor. just ridiculous. it took me about 30 minutes and I'm new to this car. good luck

yeah thats what I did for my drive belts. But most of their services that they recommend; I don't even understand what services they consist of

when they say "service" it usually means drain and refill not flush. so everything you listed falls under that. for the most part. again DIY bro

Transmission service (Flush??)

flush is more ideal, but required easily 8-12 quarts of fluid. pan holds about 5 alone. valve body about 2. i've posted on the 350z forum how to proper flush, but basically, you have to disconnect of the radiator trans lines and point it into the oil drain pan and turn on the car to let the torque converter pump out the old fluid and pull in the new fluid that you put in from draining/cleaning the pan.

Coolant Service
easy to do, but you can buy a coolant tester to see if you even need to replace it..

Power Steering Fluid Ex... (Don't know if it got cut off or what the "Ex" stands for)
power steering fluid exchange... theres a procedure to how this is done, but for the basic DIY, unplug the line and empty the container refill. it will be sufficient. the proper way takes times as getting the fluid out of the rack & pinion and clearing out the air bubbles takes more effort.

Differential Service
can be easy to do, reason to do it is really because the drain plug is a magnet and it realy does collect a lot of metal particles from the gears.

Fuel Injection Cleaning
not needed, won't really ever be needed if you rev your car hard every so often to break off the carbon build up that occurs from driving too slow

Throttle Body Service
this isn't hard to do, but you need throttle body cleaner. a lot of gunk builds up after 60k miles and it does affect the response of the engine. however, after cleaning you do need to do the throttle body reset procedure.

if you were local to me you could swing by to my home garage and be able to do all this for you for dirt cheap.

Thanks! This really helped me understand this a lot. I'll have to look into these. I'd like to come down to ur place but its quite a drive, especially with shitty LA traffic.
