Looking for some advice. However, i brought my 2005 g35 coupe into infiniti to have them do a complete look over of the car (as well as my laundry list of items i wanted fixed). What they gave me back was crazy. I have posted as picture below of the inspection report they had provided me. Please note, the $4200 passenger seat replacement...its hilarious...just thought i would share it with everyone...because clearly im doing everything my self. thank you in advance

P.S. Car runs great as we speak, however, should i just send it off a cliff to avoid future headache!!!!????

damicohead 01-18-2014 04:12 PM

ofcourse the images have to be upside down...no idea how to rotate them

Dr.Bora 01-18-2014 04:37 PM

holy s!!! thats way too much for all that stuff listed... stupid stealerhips

LoSt180 01-18-2014 05:41 PM

It's not crazy, you asked them to give it a complete look over and they did. I wouldn't pay those prices myself either, but at least you have a full list of items on your car that could use some attention.

BowWizzel 01-18-2014 05:47 PM

$14.5K for all that, might as well get another one. Sending if off a cliff doesn't sound to bad either :D

You're right, i got exactly what i asked for and now i can start fixing everything slowly.....but $4200 for a passenger seat??? that is the most absurd price i have ever saw that is car related...i really want to meet the fool that paid 4200 for a passenger seat...ill buy the same thing off ebay for $250....i basically paid $350 for a $14000 bill and a car wash...time to get started....any special tools and/or problems that i may need or run into just based on the list alone???

Just your same ol metric sockets, screw drivers, etc

I replaced all four pads with Hawks I bought on line and my Dealer installed them for 1/2 that price and replaced and flushed the brake fluid for less as well. They have no problem with me bringing in my own parts and fluids and doing the labour. I dealt with them for 5 years and the service and cost are very good. What the Hell did you buy there?

coffeysm 01-19-2014 12:55 AM

Did you buy a salvaged car or something? LOL JK.

I would do the following easy ones first, I have done most of them and I'm not a mechanic by any means.

Drive belts
Thermostat (Buy a Lisle spill-free funnel!!!) I'd recommend the Z1 silicone hoses; I bought their kit for 200 bucks.
Power steering fluid (Easy just buy 1 qt Mobil 1 ATF)
Differential fluid (Mobil 75W-90, buy some kind of pump device)
Tranny Fluid (If automatic buy ATF from dealer or Idemitsu Type J)
Brake fluid (I used a Motive power bleeder it's awesome! Valvoline Dot 3&4 fluid)

How's your idle? That P0507 error could just mean the car needs an idle reset done.

Tools I would recommend if you are starting your tool collection:
1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 socket set and the following sizes you might have to purchase separately (20mm, 21mm, 22mm, 23mm, 24mm)
Breaker bar 1/2 in
Torque wrench (1/4,3/8, and 1/2)

Infiniti replaced the bottom half of my passenger seat for 3000. One of the motors went bad. My warranty covered it part=2600 install=400

Gman56 01-19-2014 07:37 AM

Wow $14,000 thats more than I paid for my 05x! The push off a cliff might be the best option. If you do all that work the car will almost be rebuilt. How many miles does it have? I know I love my x but $14,000 Id push it off the cliff!

thank you for the replies everyone...i have 91k on it...i purchased it with 40k and took care of it for years...then stupidly opened a business and was forced to sell it due to practicality ...however, after a couple years, my mother thought it would be nice to surprise me for Christmas with a 10,000 dollar loan over my head (it was very nice) and bought the car back from the same guy without getting it inspected first...and now im left with this....if any other advice is out there that would be great...i appreciate everything so far....and i wish my seat were still under warranty! found one for $250 on ebay though!

Coffey, my idle is back down to normal, i replaced a sensor that was causing it to idle high...i will try to reset it today. Is there another way other than the complex and well time gas pedal reset?

LoSt180 01-19-2014 11:59 AM

Other way to reset it is to pay a dealer to use their consult tool. Sure the procedure is as little complicated, but at least it's free.

Let me know what it takes to fix the passenger seat. I've recently noticed the reclining portion on mine starting to stick, it goes down but doesn't always come up.

If it idles back down at 650+-50 then I'd say not to worry about the reset. The only way to do it is with Consult, pedal dance, and I think a program called NissanDataScan might work.

You can probably do all four struts yourself also, I did them on my car. You would need to rent the tool (Macpherson Strut Compressor) from AdvanceAuto, however, it was a PITA! I ended up having to Dremel off the top nuts, since they were so stuck on there. Saved me well over 1K doing it on my own and it was the first time I ever did it before. I used KYB mounts for the front with some Tokico HP Blues and pretty happy with the results so far.

That was a very nice gift from your mother! If you have other transportation I would get it running good first then tackle the tough stuff. If you found a seat for $250 I would buy it.The G is a fun car to drive and I own! You could get it fixed for a1/4 of that $14,000 price.when your finished with it it will be like new again.I just wish I could find my 78 econoline 150 custom van done by Grand system I would love to have it back.It sucks when you let go of a car you loved! I hope you get her back to the way you remember it.
