How to pull ABS codes?
Hey guys, my car is starting to act funny with the brakes.
I can drive for a few miles before I get the ABS, Slip and VDC light to come on. If I shut it off the lights go away, and after a few miles the lights will come back on. When I'm hitting the brakes (say to come to a stop) it's almost like a two stage press. So lets says I press and hold the brakes down, it feel nice and firm, and then suddenly the pedal will go down another portion, (brakes let up slightly) then will go firm again. This has been happening for some time, and went away when I did my wheel bearing for a short time (coincidence I believe). I'd like to know how to pull the codes before I start throwing parts at it. Thanks for the help |
Go to an auto parts store like Autozone, they'll do a code read out for you for free.

I tried that, but they only do engine codes.
Also mods, I apologize, didn't realize I had this in the General, please move to brakes if possible. |
If your Infiniti dealership is cool they will read the codes for you with their consult/OBD2 reader for Infiniti for free. Call in and ask.

Can't remember what those mean. I think its either brake pad/fluid that's done (Based on your description).
Or a sensor is off. |
Did you check your brake fluid level?
|
I have checked it. It's a little low, between the min and max marks.

Rears were done recently, haven't done the front since I've owned the car (less than a year). I'm waiting on my BBK to make it in. Hopefully will have it in a few days.

If you want to pull codes you need to buy either a more advanced scanner (200-300), take it to a dealer, or you can buy a Chinese Consult 3/4. It cost me about 300 dollars and took a few weeks to arrive, but I can do everything the dealer can except mess with the security system.
You probably have a bad ABS sensor though, since it comes on when you start to drive. Just need to figure out which one. |

The consult 3 didn't work, but this one does it's called Consult 4. The software was the same, but the device is a little different. I also bought a LaunchTech CRP123 at one point that can do a lot of things, however, I returned it, since it didn't work with my Volvo. They also won't give you any support if you didn't buy it from an authorized dealer. |
Does this do key reprog too?
|
Bump, still can't figure it out. Going to replace the brake master pretty soon.

I used an elm bluetooth reader and the app "car gauge pro" to reset abs and bump the timing on my 02 maxima as it has all the Nissan specific codes and access. Idk whether it will read the infinity ecu as I haven't tried it on my g yet, but it might be worth a shot for the total $15 investment. I also trouble shot my wheel speed sensors with it to see which ones were bad sometime back (again on the maxima.) Let me know if you need links and I'll get them.
