Wife left car door open can’t start car

2010 G37 — My wife didn’t get the door closed overnight and my car won’t start. I have brake lights and power seats, No ACC. 12.83 volts at battery. Tried locking unlocking manually, no luck.

Thanks.

Nice form blaming the wife... Your BCM actually has a battery saver which shuts off door related lighting after 30 minutes - unless it has purposely been disabled with a Consult III. In any case, it may be time for a new battery.

Thanks! Of course the wife did it ;-) The battery saver hasn’t been disabled, and the battery voltage is at 1283. Seems like the battery is okay? Please clarify if you can.

That voltage is not enough to crank the motor, charge your battery. Try testing it WHILE CRANKING and I bet the voltage drops to 7-8vdc

I can’t even get it to crank. No lights on the dash, no ACC, nothing works, not even the key FOB. The only things that have power are the tilt, the seats and the brake lights. I’m baffled over this one. I appreciate it. Any other thoughts? Thanks for the dialogue, I appreciate it.

Also check the fusible link, you may have popped the big 80amp fuse.

No security light or any lights. Does not crank. She’s just dead.

Charging a battery with one or more defective cells still results in a defective/dead battery.

Test your individual battery cells.

No. Do not have a hydrometer. Batteries are maintenance free — shouldn’t open them because they’re sealed. I appreciate the dialogue.

If it's a sealed battery then you need to use one of the big fancy load bank type testers they have at the auto parts house. It puts a big load on the battery while simultaneously measuring voltage drop. Pretty accurate.

Or call AAA

They can test your maintenance free battery and provide/ install a new one for you.

If you're not lucky enough to have the Auto Club invest in a pair of jumper cables then you can charge your battery off another car, negative to negative/positive to positive! Since it's really dead you may need to charge it for 15 minutes or more to bring it back to life.
