Yes, as the pads wear the calipers compress more and eventually your reservoir gets down to the low limit and it trips those lights, fairly common issue.
However, if the parking brake light is on then it could simply be the parking brake switch isn't contacting anymore and needs adjustment or replacement, I don't know if it causes and error that disables the VDC system though, never tried it before.

So there are a ton of threads on this, some mentioning wheel speed sensors, but mostly pads and brake fluid.
My brakes are fresh, the fluid is fresh and full, and my local mechanic diagnosed a faulty switch in my brake reservoir. I'm having that fixed, $89 part from the dealer. I then went online, including here, and I see that my mechanic is likely right. We shall see. I will try to remember to post if this is an additional part to look at - the brake fluid reservoir level switch...
If fixed, my 2008 G35x with 124k will again be mechanically perfect. Quiet and runs as good as the day I bought her about 110k miles ago - need to make sure these lights aren't because there is something mechanically wrong with the car (other than the faulty switch...).
