Ac clutch barely spinning

My ac is blowing room temperature air and i went to look at the compressor and the clutch was only spinning like an inch and then stopped then an inch and kept doing that. What would cause it to not spin very well. Could it be that it needs freon. Seems like it just needs a helping hand. Please help

If the freon levels are off, it will cause your AC compressor to shut off. That might be whats happening with your car but I'm not 100% sure. Lets see if anyone else knows for sure...

I dont know but my ac belt well i think its the ac belt. The smaller belt just snapped and i have no idea how. All i know is i had the degree set to 90 and then i heard a squeeking then it snapped. I then noticed the ac button was on but i didnt think that mattered. Could it have anything to do with the ac button on while the heater was going

Shouldn't matter, you can crank the temp up all the way and turn the AC button on and the compressor will still engage. If it engages and then rapidly disengages it's probably a refrigerant pressure problem. Get a manifold on it and test for proper pressure or take it to a shop that does auto AC repairs and have them diagnose the problem.

I just ended up having the compressor replaced. didnt want to waste just getting a new clutch and that not be the problem. thanks for the help
