Going to Dyno the G35 tonight at Endless Garage. I'm going to do some baseline runs before making any mods to the car. If you guys would like to make it, it's going to be at 7:00pm (10/11/04) sorry late notice.

I'm not sure how to compare results with other G35s out there as far as baseline runs. I searched and came up with someone making 236rwhp and 218 ftlbs-tq, so I'm not far off (I guess). So it seems pretty realistic to me. Pulls were made from 3rd gear. I just wonder how much more power it would make if their Garage was much cooler. If you've ever been to Endless, you'd know how hot it is in there. I also saw another G35 Dyno chart making 250+ hp with a Z-tube, aftermarket intake element, and test pipes and exhaust and whatever else is in there at Endless. Big ups to Marcus and Endless Garage for hooking me up with a deal.

Nice numbers... for a 14 second car...especially considering the weight...

636Racer, were there corrections made due to the pull being in 3rd gear?

I'm thinking that 5th will give us a near 1:1 and therefore not skew the dyno results. Don't know too much about dynoing, so please bear with me.

So the results are not biased by the gear you are running in?

I'm not too sure if it's biased upon what gear i was in. I never gave consideration to what gear would give the closest ratio. I didnt think i mattered.

The reason I ask is that another person and his friend did some pulls out in San Diego. They were also pulling in third, but their results were around 300 hp to the wheels (he has a 6MT coupe).

I have asked him to talk to the shop he dynoed at to see if they apply (or did not apply) a correction factor due to the gearing.

Is it possible for you to call Endless and see what the scoop is? Like I said, I don't know too much about the specifics of dynoing, but I seem to recall that guys were pretty specific about pulling in 5th gear.

yes 5th is probably a direct 1 to 1 ratio for that tranny, 6th is most likely overdrive.
umm the one thing a Dyno doesn't show is the time it takes to accelerate from a certain rpm to another.
pulling in 5th would be a direct 1-1... but having a motor pull for like 20sec vs 10sec on the Dyno is a big time difference in terms of what could be happening during that time. (car could load up and heat up quite a bit during that time.. possible less power... but if you are pullin for a longer time the computer might calculate the time out and just keep adding up the work the car is doing on the rollers.

I still don't fully understand why 3rd is used, but can see the advantages over using 5th. By the same reasoning, why wouldn't you use 1st or 2nd gear (does 3rd give you an overall better rpm range or stress the engine less)?

Also since third isn't 1:1 could it give a false impression of the power a motor puts out (kind of like making two guys ride up a steep hill, one with a huge gear and one with a small one)?

I do not know what type of dyno was used for the guy's pulls. I'll post the question and see what he says.

As I said before I don't know too much about dynoing so that's why I'm asking all these questions. Thanks for the info....wow that's some pretty good service, very responsive. Thanks to 636 and Marcus.

the Dyno ECU takes tach signal and calculates torque..
hp is calculated easily by acceleration the rollers.
