Best Radar Detector for Oahu?
I'm kinda stuck between the Valentine 1 and one of the Escorts. Anyone have any real world Oahu experience?
thanks in advance! |
i figure whats the point? by the time it detects it, its probably too late. they can shoot radar from 2 miles away.
|
FYI they don't use radar in Honolulu, only Laser. Since laser is such a focused beam there is no scatter, if your detector goes off it's too late they just shot your speed. so JDM-v35 is correct what's the point in a detector. on the other hand a laser jammer would work. If you want to stick only with those brands you mentioned Escort has a laser shifter option which is a jammer.

I understand your guys point. If thats the case, why would anyone buy one then? Must kinda work yeah?
|
^^^Radar detectors will work where the LEO's use radar. I thought that there were some combo laser jammers/radar detectors, but I've never looked into them.

BTW not everything works and not everything that works works-well.

People buy them here to have a toy. I had my Valentine from the mainland. I think it's gone off maybe 20 times in the 5+ years I've been here.
It's always laser, and as stated before when it goes off, you're already clocked. |

not true...i have one and its awesome! forgot what brand it is, it works, it goes off. specially by red hill :)
|
some say it doesn't work, some do. i guess i just gotta buy one to find out for myself. i thought it would just be clear cut. oh well.

Obey laws and drive responsible, there shouldn't be a need for one....
|
It definitely works. Let's you know when you've been hit by laser.
The military bases still use K band radar. |

Radar in Hawaii
The police on Ohau have just added 25 new in-car radar units and will add another 25 next year. They still have a few laser handheld units, but any new detector will detect both. Although laser is on/off, you can still detect it when they shoot another vehicle.
I don't bother to use mine. Traffic is either crawling or bumper to bumper exceeding the speed limit. They do write tickets, but all on duty cars have a blue light on top that is lit up. Better than a detector. |
