$500 HID Installed
Hi Friends...
I am new here. I found an ad on Craig's List - http://www.craigslist.org/sfo/sfc/biz/6359165.html. I called the guy to make an appointment for Saturday (this) morning 11 AM. The deal is for a pair of Hella Xenon lights (BMW stock) installed in about an hour. He hasn't done a G before but he felt confident about doing the install. I guess I'll print out some instructions I found on this site too. He is going to help me change my Fog/High lights to SilverStars (I bought) and PIAA HID LED White (I bought) clearing lights.
But I've been reading here about the Maccullogh HID's. Would they be superior to Hella HID's? I just want to make sure I'm getting a good deal. Is there anywhere else in the Bay Area I can get these installed? I'd prefer an installer who doesn't use my G as a guinea pig. Any last minute input will be ultra appreciated!

Re: $500 HID Installed
Hi Ling,
The folks at G-Garage have already done McCulloch lights on a G35 (see www.mccullochhid.com). I bought a kit from them, and installed myself. I really like the H1 kit (5K bulbs), because it gives a true white light (not blue).
The main issue is whether they cut your stock wires or not. Since I consider mine permanent, I cut two wires, and soldered onto the ballast. G-garage attaches to the existing connectors without cutting, although it requires some wiring tricks. You'll want to ask before they get started.
Just fyi, I had a bulb burn out in 3 months, but G-garage made good by giving me a new bulb. So far, so good...

Hi Bora...
Thank you for your input! I wanted to get the MacCullogh. But I went ahead with this shop out of convenience and price (500 bucks cash). I found out the shop's name is Artec Motorsports. The guy seemed to mostly do BMW racing mods. In fact, my xenons are OEM Hella's with the BMW stamped on the parts. I was told that they are 7000K's. Jesus, they are hella bright. I guess the 3.5 hours was worth the wait. I note that they cut the wires and soldered them together. They spent quite a bit of time lining up all the lights they replaced for me. I do want to note that the Xenon seem to shine in a very straight pattern almost mid-level. It's alot higher than I'm used to. When I turn on the Fogs, it kind of fills up the bottom portion. And then when I flick the Highs, it just sort of adds to what the Xenon is doing. I hope I don't get a ticket.
The Xenon combo with my Sylvania Silver Star Fog/Higs and PIAA HID LED White clearance lights looks fantastic. I will highly recommend this shop if I get 2000+ hours out of these bulbs!
Also, I can't believe how much I love my G. I enjoy it more and more everyday.

Personally I prefer the Philips Ultinon kits 6000K. They seem to work the best out of the ones I've tried and the kits are plug and play (no splicing). I'll be doing group buy soon if anyone is interested. I already have 5 people.
