Z-Tube or CAI?
 

Just found out what everyone meant by Z-tube. Seems like the gains are about the same but the Z-tube being hundreds less$$$ Any thoughts on this? Seems like getting the Z-tube and a K&N filter would be cheaper and just as good or is there something the CAI has that I'm missing??

Crawford ZCar, the people who make the plenum, say that a CIA does nothing. IMO, the "Z" intake is just about perfect, and all we "G" folks need to do is add the "Z" intake and the K&N Dropin and we're there. No flames please.

It's all about breathing. A less restrictive intake tract and a less restrictive exhaust tract will generally make more power. If you install a group of part upgrades, their cumulative benefit may be better than the benefit contributed by each part alone.

I installed the "Z" tube , but before I installed it I wrapped it in fiberglass heat tape to keep it cool, and painted it black , it looks good and it works well. I will post a picture later

I'm curious to what supports Crawford's claim that the CAI adds nothing. Did they perform a dyno? Is Crawford talking about all CAI's or one manufacturer in particular? I got the Stillen CAI and felt some dyno butt but we all know that doesn't mean jack. Stillen also has dyno results showing some hp gains.

So I take it there's really no difference between the Z-Tube + filter as opposed to a CAI setup? Difference of $120 to $250. Seems a bit strange.

Crawford has seen no benefit to CAI on their cars. They back up this claim with dyno's. Now, that doesn't mean others haven't seen an improvement. Every car is different. I, personally just put a z-tube on mine.
