Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
I'm slowly learning about engine mods and wanted some feedback. Yes, I've been searching the forums for information but I'm trying to compare the Z Tube/Pop Charger setup versus other CAI's. Also, a Z owner mentioned to me that CAI's are prone to sucking water based on the mounting position, etc. He suggested seeing if the stock Z tube/box setup would fit instead. Is this even possible?
For reference, I'm looking for easy and relatively inexpensive mods to start with. I have access to the free Z tube/box setup if it works. If not, then perhaps adding the Pop Charger to the free Z tube is an option...assuming it is just as good as other CAI setups. Thanks for any info you can provide... |
Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
Add the Z tube for sure. It helps ever so slightly at the top RPM's. The JWT Pop charger will make more noise, and many say that it indeed adds maybe 5-6 hp at the upper RPMs also. That might be the best intake combination available.

Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
You can fit the Z-tube directly onto the stock G35 air-box and add a K&N panel filter. Works well, and based on my 0-60 run times on a G-Timer, works better than with the Pop-Charger, and my Dyno results over 2 days (with Pop-Charger, then stock box) Pop-Charger results inconclusive?
I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to re-install my Pop-Charger, though I like the look and sound. https://g35driver.com/rides/spec/pix...1045505413.jpg[i]GroundingGear™ Equipped |

Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
Great. Thanks for the information. One or two more questions:
If installing the Z tube, what exactly am I installing? Just the straight tube shown at the top here? Or will I actually install the additional piece connected to the G tube? (shown at the bottom of this picture) https://g35driver.com/g35albums/album33/16_G.jpg Thanks...sorry if this is a newb question...usually I'm more focused on wheels, etc. |

Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
yep, it's that straight tube on top of pic.....if you have access to a free z-tube, then by all means, get it!!!!! if not,do the intake tube mod from Suzook. have fun, then enjoy your new "sound". never be sorry for asking, we're newbies once, i still am.....and wheels you say, try this......235/40/zr18s...it'll be 3.5% smaller in diameter than stock setup, side effect: engine is less strained as it's thinking its moving a "smaller" tire......hope that makes sense.

Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
thanks for the info. so you think it might make sense to just do the Z tube first, then add a pop charger if necessary?
did anyone ever determine if the whole Z tube/box would fit a Z or if it's even worth it? thanks again for the info everyone... |
Re: Z Tube/Pop Charger vs. Z Box vs. Other CAI's
I still have a Z box from my old Z and I think the G's intake gets more air to it that the Z... Just my opinion.

Hmm. So again, perhaps it's a good start to try the Z tube first, then add a pop charger if necessary.
Thanks again for the feedback... |
