What's that wierd plastic bottle under the air-box?

sitting under the air box is some kind of plastic bottle? maybe it's to catch any liquid that goes in the air box

edit: here's a DIY to turn that bottle into an intake...

That was made with kuneff in mind.

That's for him to hide his beer in

It is a baffle to reduce noise.

^^^+1. It pulls right of too. It is held on with two rubber grommets and the baffle just slips over them.

You're right, but what is weird is that if you plug that resonator, there's actually less induction noise at WOT. Additionally, the motor feels better without the plug in place. I ran with a plug in the resonator for well over a year and yanked the plug last month just as an experiment. The motor simply feels better with the resonator working.

that's in your head, no way the baffler-bottle inproved your cars performance..... it's a closed bottle, so if anything it's causing greenhouse effect with the air inside getting warmed up then introduces that hot air into your intake

I respectfully disagree. Run it one way then the other and see what happens. My guess is the intake resonator is a Helmholtz resonator which improves air flow by making it more laminar and improving the shape of powerband. My old VQ30 had a similar design and the car's were stronger with the resonator than without.

The air in the bottle is not closed nor will it heat the air to any measurable difference. When the car is moving and you have the stock intake, it's pulling in ambient air. The air won't stick around in the resonator long enough to get heated. Anyways, I've run my car at the strip and the motor doesn't care if it's stone cold or heat soaked. The ET/MPHs are within hundredths in ET and tenths in MPH. When I hot lap the car, it tends to get quicker.

guys its not just a resonator, infact it is less of a resonator than another cool air source. There is a plastic tube that connects to the buttom part of that lower duct. That plastic tube brings fresh/cool air right from the outside of the car.

no it's not, it's a closed bottle have you taken it out to look at it?>>>>?

That "bottle" is a resonator :icon17:

When i clean my filter this weekend i will tell u exactly what it is and what that tubes function is where the box connects to in the bottom.

Klubbheads, what did you find out? I took mine apart along time ago and do not remember what it looked like. I likes the increase in induction noise so I left it off. I am thinking about running a hose (I'll try to avoid dryer duct hose) from in front of the radiator to the hole on the bottom for another cool air source.

my car is in the body shop right now and my camera is in it. Im supposed to get it back thursday and when I do Ill take some pics and post em since I have my entire air box including this peice removed

I'm telling you, I've run with that resonator plugged for a long time and recently removed the plug. The induction sound is significantly louder with the resonator active. IMO, it is some sort of Hemholtz resonator which is a type of resonator designed to improve air flow characteristics.
