Rev-Up airbox on a VQ35DE - special note

As some of you know, Nissan revised the rear airbox cover on certain Rev-Up VQ35DEs. The revision included installation of a huge velocity stack in the airbox vs the small ring used on other G/Z airboxes. As we know, the RevUp was available in 2005 and 2006 in all 6MT G/Zs. However, I've confirmed that the airbox was only used on 2006 Rev-Ups. This is according to Nissan and Infiniti parts catalogs and 2005/2006 Z owners. So, if you're going to order one of these airboxs (about $80-90), make sure you order it for a 2006 G35 6MT.

Does anyone have any pics showing the difference in the stack? I have an 05 and it seems to have a pretty big velocity stack attached to it.

Wow it seems like it I should keep my stock intake. Didn't know the 06 was that different. So 06 airbox vs Stillen is it just for the sound at this point.

Interesting... I have a 2005 and always assumed I had the "better" air box. I guess not.

Good post...

Wow that is quite a change. Must be worth it for Nissan to spend that much time/effort making the change.

That really shows the difference.

Thanks for posting the side-by-side pictures.

Exactly.

Usually a car company doesn't make small changes like that without a good reason to. Makes you think it might be more important than we ever thought.

but we need to know about post #9... can anyone else confirm this?... maybe check an early 05 rev-up?... its possible they made the change late year.

Knowing will make it easier to find one.

they probably saw that some aftermarket (Stillen, JWT) had incorporated big velocity stacks and made the change - Steve Millen and Jim Wolf both have Nissan relations.
