I'm am currently installing headers...it's been FUN!

I have just removed the pass. side manifold and am about to installed the header for that side. I took exactly 1 hour to remove the pass. side manifold. It was actually pretty easy, I though I was able to remove from the top originally but it's definitely easier from the bottom. I'll post pics when I'm done.

For now...air tools really help a TON. I'm doing it in my garage and I really don't see why so many people cry over this...maybe I'm just not far enough into the project. Be back later to see if maybe I'm being premature...lol.

What kind of headers are you going with?

I bought a set on ebay for $100 shipped!...lol They look outstanding though ( which I honestly wasn't expecting ). They are Edge Racing.

I'm more worried about the entire exhaust kinda jerking on these headers though. Makes me want to make a bracket while I'm at it.

I just installed the pass. side header. Must more difficult to install due to it's size compared to the OEM but still not exactly HARD. More like, tedious ( took me about 2 hours ).

I'm off to the drivers side now.

BTW- I'm installing test pipes while I'm at it.

GT-ER Apr 27, 2009 01:15 PM

Out came the drivers side manifold. Took 30 mintues...it's much easier than the pass. side due to the coolant piping on the drivers side being so much smaller and closer to the heads.

No bloody hands yet though they are kinda starting to hurt...lol.

Also, I don't know if removing the AC compressor would have made my lofe easier but the nut closest to the Compressor seems like it's going to be a pain to install again.

Well, I'm done. I just need to finish putting the intake back on and adding coolant to the radiator. The steering column was BY FAR the hardest part...so some reason it was stuck. Up to now it's taken me a little over 5 hours with random breaks and 30 minute dump...lol. I'll post pics soon.

GT-ER Apr 27, 2009 04:05 PM

Holy CRAP it's loud!! I really can't tell if my car is any faster because my mind just gets blown away by how loud it is...lol. Keep in mind I just added test pipes as well. I have an extra muffler that I am going to install because I knew it was going to be louder but not this loud. Hope that extra muffler helps. :icon43:

The install really was more difficult than I imagined but it was definitely not what a lot of people here make it to be. It took me about 6 hours total and this is my first time.

Hopefully this week I can hit the track to see how she runs.

Did you remove the coolant pipe?

Consider writing up a DIY with any short cuts, problem areas, etc. I'm still pulling on doing the OEM HR header and cat setup.

I didn't remove the coolant pipe but I did remove some hoses to make som space.

I suck at write ups but I read this one to get prepared:

I'm worried the weight of the exhaust will screw the headers up. :icon43:

either make a bracket or have a exhaust shop make you one just to be on the safe side.

Dsskyline Apr 27, 2009 06:19 PM

didn't mean to quote all the pics.:) have you taken it for a drive yet?

Good job on the install. Did you use a lift or just some jacks?

I have some ichiba headers with TP and they are loud as heck. I went back to put the stock cats on, but still didn't help too much. I'm pulling the headers out next week and replacing them with some Tomei ones that I will heat wrap to help reduce not only the heat but the noise. I tried it on my TP and it helped a bunch.

SixOneFive Apr 27, 2009 10:41 PM

From the pics, those headers look pretty nice man. Have fun with them.

GT-ER Apr 28, 2009 12:17 AM

I went out for a ride and I can't stand the loudness. Right now I only have a 3" magnaflow muffler and that's it. I have another magnaflow muffler that I'm going to install soon so hopefully it will quiet it down considerably.

Car pulls great, hopefully I can get to the track this week. I'm just worried about it not having any brackets like the oem ones.

The install was done in my garage with some jacks. My back hurts now...lol.

gabe3d Apr 28, 2009 01:19 AM

I have 3 mufflers in my exhaust system, 3 resonators and the stocks cats and it still is loud, but hopefully wrapping my headers will help since it quieted my test pipes down the sound of my stock cats, good luck and let us know how things go.

chinabean Apr 28, 2009 06:12 AM

not bad, good job - installing my testpipes were a biabia without air tools =[
