Test Pipes = Lot's O Rasp
Hey guys,
Ive been on here for a while but i dont post to many threads unless im in a sticky. I just got my BERK Test Pipes installed today and im very happy with the outcome of the louder tone and some power gains but i am however unappy with the amazing extra rasp im getting. Now i know this is as expected but im almost to a point where its not even 24 hours after the install and i wanna yank them the **** out. Anything i can do to remove this hideous ****ing tone? It sounds like a POS civic passin by. FYI i have the following mods, Tanaba Medallion Cat back Stock Y Pipe Test Pipes ( BERKS ) Thanks! |
Sorry to tell ya the only way to get rid of the rasp is to get rid of the test pipes. you should try hfc's.
|
you should have gone with resonated test pipes.
|
Resonated will help, but it will still rasp.
I have the HKS exhaust.. I used to have Crawford high-flow cats (best exhaust sound setup imo). I decided to get Fast Intentions resonated test pipes. The gas smell and the rasp was not worth the switch. I did back-to-back dynos with the test pipes and then switched back to the high-flow cats. The test pipes only made 1whp more and it was at the top of the rpm band. It's totally not worth it! |
I agree. I had the Helix test pipes (non resonated) with my fujitsubo exhaust and damn! it sounded like a hollow can. Basically sounded like "shiet"... not worth getting.
|
You could wrap your whole exhaust in heat wrap. That MIGHT cut it down.
But yea, they are test pipes. You should have got something resonated. Did you install them yourself? How hard 1-10? |
What else would you have expected from unresonated test pipes?
Resonated test pipes significantly reduce the rasp [but do not eliminate it] |
Hey guys sorry for the late respose i was working on my house all day and night after this post. So yes i knew that the test pipes would make rasp but NOT this much. I mean it sounds like a peice of **** rolling down the rd. The only way i can control the rasp is if i control the throttle lightly and not punch it.
Right now i have the BERK's on here..... what would be a good set to get so that i can still get the power + less rasp? Any other test pipes that you recommend or take them out completely? and do something else? Need feedback asap guys! thanks. |

Hey buddy, the ones i have are obviously not HFC test pipes.. Do u sell this? How much?
|
With Testpipes, it will get worst as more sound deadening fiber or whtever starts to burn off in the exhaust muffler. Only way to fight rasp, is to add additional sound champer. For my truedual Nvidia g200, i added a magnaflow x-muffler. Since you're running a y-pipe set up, might be worthwhile to upgrade that piece to optimize the entire exhaust system. Adding 1 or 2 additional resonator onto the tanabe might help or kill the rasp.
|
Get real familiar with a drill and start drilling holes
Make it look like a strainer the rasp will go away:D:p |
u should def try hfcs instead. btw how does the tanabe exhaust sound, im debating if i should get it
|
hey i just drove by you on rosevale ave..lol
