this is def the best one i've ran so far, there's some old tests out there floating around proving that the A'PEXi has the highest flow and the best filtration out there. i'm in love. it's a direct bolt-on for those who are interested.

engine bay update: still rocking the APEX'i and loving it

Any heat soak?

How was the z-tube with the k&n filter?

SDGenius Jun 18, 2010 01:21 AM

the biggest point of heat soak on the DE is the huge 2pc aluminum intake manifold, i have a vented hood to aid w/that.

z-tube + K&N is okay, too quiet for my tastes and the K&N filters don't filter very well.

Is this an oil based filter? I wonder if these would fit on to other aftermarket intakes.. specifically my stillen gen 3 intake on my 2nd gen sedan.

SDGenius Jun 18, 2010 02:10 AM

it's a dry filter

this doesn't attach like most cone filters, it's bolted on. so you would need one of these adapters to attach it to ur CAI

still grinning over this, LOL

Nice dry filter but I don't like the fact that there's no velocity stack. And these filters aren't cleanable right? Expensive IMHO.

Even DaveB tried to use the Amsoil Eau and cleaned it regularly but eventually it clogged up because it never gets brand new clean every time.

I won't disagree that any of these cone intakes out flow the OEM panel filter and airbox, but when the OEM airbox flows way more air that what the VQ35 can ingest, what's the point?

actually it does have a velocity stack built into the filter it's self.

well, the OEM intake has been known to create a pressurized air charge. i think w/the right setup, MAYBE it could be achieved w/an aftermarket setup. i'm no rocket scientist BUT i know that the throttle response and ability to move through the RPMs can be enhanced w/high-flow setups. it's all really a balancing act w/the power band, heat, more sound and the fun to drive factor. this particular setup suits my needs more than any other one i've run in the past. i do drive my Wife's G sedan w/is pretty much stock and my car is def faster in every aspect. i do plan on building here car more to ur guy's liking performance wise. she already has; MD 5/16 spacer, K&N high-flow filter, HR y-pipe, 05-06 middy, and custom axle-back. i do plan on either picking up a revup air box for her in the future or just adding a velocity stack to her 03 box in the future and adding a tune. possibly even HFCs. i'd really like to eventually post up a "shootout" thread between our cars.

Why am I not surprised the new filter's red? ;)

Glad you're happy with it.
