Simota Oil Catch Can

5 Attachment(s)
After looking at a bunch of different oil catch cans I decided on the Simota because of reviews found on the NASIOC forum for my WRX. Well, with a little modification of the supplied bracket, I installed it upright next to the upper radiator hose for a perfect fit.
If anyone is interested I'll post install pics and some instructions. It was pretty simple - 30 minutes.
I like the unit because it's polished stainless (see pic), has a see-through oil level gauge, a bottom drain, and a baffle to prevent oil from flowing through. It also came with two sizes of fittings, bright blue fuel pressure grade hose and stainless steel clamps. I think it looks perfect. I bought some stainless braided hose but had a really hard time cutting it cleanly so I gave up and used the blue hose that Simota sent.

: it was a few bucks less on eBay directly from Simota.

no leaks? i had a greddy one and it leaked. also have a CC small one that leaked so i revised the lil hose gauge and sealed the fittings so no more leaky leak. some install pix would be great!

pics please

I'll post some pics this weekend. The unit is made really well and I see no reason why it would/should leak but its only been on for a few days.

When I initially got the unit and I started sizing up the exact loacation I thought that mounting it would be more of a challenge. Turns out that the mounting bracket, can size and location I mentioned are just right.

..pics soon, I promise.

The greddy and NRG cans are infamous for leaking. That issue is solved very easily by sealing the ends with a little RTV. Worked like a champ for me and I think OCG35 did the same fix.

Hi there,
I have a quick question, how did you modify the L-shaped bracket to fit?
thanks in advance!!!

took a different approach with the bracket. no mod necessary lol.

just wish it came with those fancy fittings you got.

so ive been reading more on these and other forums about catch cans, and one thing that is pretty important that I overlooked was the strength of the vacuum hoses.

the ones supplied by simota collapsed under vacuum (specially the one leading to the plenum). I drove around with it like that for a couple of weeks or so until I came across a thread that their hoses were collapsing.

check your hoses people!

Thank you for the info, I am in need of a new can so I will be buying one of these today. I just did a wire tuck so I am thinking something crazy... Hidden catch can install. This one looks small enough to pull it off...

no problem. there are a bunch of other catch cans out there. personally would have gone with the "corvette" oil catch can. this one is nice since it has a baffle and some good surface area to actually be functional but i just wish there were better brackets for it and a bit smaller still.

im actually even looking into the perrin air oil seperator. perrin sells a really nice regular catch can as well.

Can you link me the corvette can you are referring to?(Edit: Found it) I am able to machine anything I need, and wouldn't have a problem making a second bracket for you if I was to go that route. I just don't want to spend much on a catch can because it is 50/50 if I can pull off the hidden can thing. I swapped my battery around to help my tuck, I am not sure what kind of room I will be dealing with when I get the reversed battery installed.

I liked the blue tubing the simotausa one came with to match my blue silicon hoses, too bad it collapses under heavy vaccuum. I am currently running some fuel line from the auto parts store for my ugly DIY can. It has held up great with no collapsing, only problem is it isn't blue.

i know z1motorsports.com sells high strength colored silicone hoses might wanna check there. thanks for the offer greatly appreciated but i think ill just stick with this can until i finally make my mind up haha. got excited and jumped on the first catch can that looked good.

again, not a bad catch can just as you can see, not in love with it.

heres the link for z1 hoses:

I'm using a cheap all-start performance can, easy to drain, little taller than I would have liked but with a new coolant overflow it mounted up in the front corner of the bay and was pretty cheap.[/QUOTE]

How long did the simota one take to arrive at your door? You can't beat their price, at least not that I have found yet. If it wasn't for this thread I'd probably end up doing something stupid like just venting the PCV out as far back as I could with some blue fuel line for looks...
