DIY - Poor man's Z-tube

I'll call it a P-tube (Papa-tube aka Poormans-tube) :icon17:

I decided to mod up the stock intake tube to try and replicate the same flow as a Z-tube which basically has all the baffling removed.

I had done this a few months ago and today, put it on my friends coupe. To our surprise, it had a nice growl at around 4K rpm.

Here is what was done.

Stock G-tube

Removed lower baffle (I just snapped it off)

You can see 3 holes but only the center one is what goes through to the baffle. The other two are completely closed off.

Inside the tube, directly across from the center opening that is there after removing the baffle is a smaller hole that leads to the top section of the tube. I took some RTV silcone sealant and sealed the hole up.

I then cut a small section out from the lower baffle that was removed large enough to fit the center opening on the bottem of the G-tube.

Took the cut piece, cut it to fit over the hole and sealed with more RTV silcone sealant.
All holes sealed up. Slap it on and let'er rip :driving:

Happy modding!

I love DIY, and i think it's cool that people do this, but for 30-50 dollars, i'd rather just buy one

Chris the thing I like about this is for the people that still run their stock engine cover, the top of the "Papatube" will still fit nicely in the cutout giving the bay a cleaner look than a z tube. Most might not care about that, but it's the little details I pay attention to.

Great job (and you too Dave!)..........

do the two end holes protrude into the airway itself? it looks like it does. since it is only plastic did it look like these could be massaged? thanx

I have a FS listing up last several days ago for this same mod G/Ztube, if anyone wanna buy it instead I still have it up for sale...

My friend commented on that as he runs his stock cover still  Thanks Tim (it is Tim right? :o )

End holes? Are you speaking of the holes on either side of the center hole that was made by removing the baffling? If you are, no, they do not protrude into the airway as they do not go all the way through. Looking inside the tube, it is flat where those holes would be.

I don't know what piece you are talking about massaging. Maybe the above answered your question.
