Trying to buy a Muffler for my 03 G35 Sedan but very confused!

Hi Guys,

Im trying to buy a muffler for my 03 G Sedan. So far I have a coupe midpipe and hr y pipe installed with my stock muffler, and I'm trying to change out the muffler with a magnaflow muffler.

This tech at the mufflershop i go to wrote down that I need a 2.5" Inlet and Dual Rear Exit.

(Not sure if Tips come with a muffler), but the website to order is asking a lot of questions.
I need your help and advice. The pipe position. I understand my mid pipe connects to my muffler from the right side, but the exit is Center?

Can anyone help me out with this pipe location what I need to order the correct muffler?
Offset/Offset Center Center?

If you want to go with a Magnaflo, I would just get a 2 1/2" by 3" or 4" single outlet and put a nice stainless tip on it.

The best way is the HKS "axle back" muffler, you can install it yourself in about an hour and it's a beautiful stainless.

Sounds like the tech is trying to order a generic Magnaflow Muffler and weld it into place.

I think you want the muffler that is actually made for the G35

Magnaflow doesn't make a specific muffler for the G35 sedan. Most people are using the 14816 which is a universal. Just pick one up online and take it to your welder.

As long as the muffler has a 2.5" inlet (which most do) you'll be fine with any outlet...the hks muffler for our sedan is the most overpriced junk ever..the magnaflow sounds better and is really popular. Just get on youtube and type is g35 sedan magnaflow 14815 and there's videos for days..they're quality mufflers

The HKS is pricey (I got mine BNIB at a good price) but I disagree that it's junk. Had mine 3-4 years and it still looks like new.

let me rephrase that, the price is junk...hell you may as well buy a tanabe full exhaust

I took at look at 14815 & 14816, and the inlet pipe position is center.
I think that my midpipe connects to my muffler on the bottom right (when looking at the muffler sideways)

I guess this is called Inlet Offset? So I guess I would have to order a Center/Offset 2.5" muffler?

No, the pipe is bent and made to work by the muffler installer...they just weld the damn thing on man, look up a muffler install on youtube or something..it's an easy 15 min job

Watch those muffler guys. They might cut your old muffler off and weld it right onto the mid pipe. I had them take the old one off at the flange and weld a new flange on the new muffler pipe. They can make the bend to the new muffler with the center inlet. If they say they cant then find someone with more experience. I would also help them line it up how you want it. Sometimes they don't care as much as you do about your car. I love my Magnaflow.

Thanks, I get that they just weld the muffler on, but I was thinking instead of getting the universal muffler with the Inlet in the center, I was hoping to order a muffler that has the inlet near the bottom right instead of the center so the install is clean and the pipes meet/fit directly with no bending or welding. Like how
the muffler Magnaflow 16861 pictures shows....

In the magnaflow website any oval muffler 2.5 inlet runs around 100 bones, where the 14816 universal muffler is around $200..

Im thinking why not just get any magnaflow 2.5 inlet oval one for $100 if it's the same.

Magnflow shows #14815 as the muffler for your first gen G35 sedan. Check out www.magnflow.com for a number where you get some advice. Should be 2.5" inlet and outlet so you'll have uninterrupted flow which will compliment the rest of your system. Shop around, find the best price and have your muffler shop install it for you....Gary

Thanks 2.5 inlet and 2.5 outlet?

Note that the muffler on the early first gen Gs is very small/efficient and offers an excellent pairing with the coupe midpipe. If your stock muffler is still in good shape, you may not experience much of a change going to an aftermarket unit.
