Limp mode CAI

Question. I have a AEM CAI that i want to get rid of as I'm tired of getting limp mode issues due to rain/water hitting it on the front. It came with the car so I didn't install it nor do I have the old parts.

I came across the R2C intakes and am considering buying it. Here's the issue, I don't have any of the stock parts from the oem setup. Will I need any of the OEM stuff to install the R2C setup or is it stand alone?

Is there any other options considering I don't have any of the stock parts? I'm assumg I'd have to buy an air box and the tubing if I went another route???

Just put the damn oem revup box in there

Here's a link for the oem revup. This and a z-tube have proven to be the most effective intake.

Trust me I'd love to. As I said I didn't install the CAI to begin with.... Nor did the guy I purchased the car from provide me with the OEM parts.

Thank you! My vehicle is a 2004 (non revup), will that air box work? The Z-tube and airbox would be all I need to get going and rid of this CAI?

I think I've done enough for one day.

Right thanks for the patience.

For a lot cheaper I can send you a short ram or you can cut your current one short and be done.

That's a good suggestion I never considered (cutting the current one.) I suppose I'd still have to fab up heat shields or source an air box that uses the cone filters..?

How much do you want for your short ram and what is it?

Just take a little bit off, it won't make much to fix your issue. Although I never had that problem with one directly in my bumper. But if you're sure that's the problem and its not a loose connection then that's the easiest thing to do

Ya whenever the rain gets heavy during longer drives or I accidentally give it a shot near that side of the bumper with the pressure washer it gets wet and I'm unable to drive over 3k or so RPM until I dry the filter. I've had it for years like that but I'm afraid of getting stuck on one of my longer road trips through the States if I encounter a good storm along the way.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten it wet or had any issues as mine sits directly exposed to the elements. :confused2:

When you say take a little but off you're talking a few inches or do you mean cutting the tubing far enough so it sits up on top of the motor?

Yours shouldn't be exposed to the elements. Are you missing the factory splash shielding in the wheel wells & under the car?

No it has the shielding on the wheel wells and the guard from underneath but I still seem to manage to get it wet through the front of the bumper whenever it rains with any significance as THAT part is virtually wide open.

Will the aem intake by-pass valve help any? http://www.aemintakes.com/search/pro...x?prod=20-403S

I was looking at that and from reading other peoples experiences, it doesn't seem so unless the intake became fully submerged then the bypass would become active...

I ordered one of these filter wraps and we'll see how it goes when it gets here.

Beware that they keep water in too. Made one of my cheapo filters rust out a few years ago
