Wow, I'll never do that!
Ok, I'm a serious newbie and had an appointment scheduled this morning to have a z-tube installed on my '05 G35 Coupe.
I was almost at Grubbs Infiniti when I realized that they were going to charge me a minimum of $240 to install the z-tube (that's just installation charges). Keep in mind, this is only for a z-tube. I already have a K&N air filter. I was going with the z-tube/k&n combo instead of the CAI. Now, I may be a moron.......but even I thought that seemed a little high, especially since it's only a z-tube. In fact, that seemed high for installing a complete CAI (refering to only the install charges, not the parts). Anyways, I chickened out and then called Jotech in Garland. They recommened that I do the AEM cold air unit. It's around $280 for the parts and only $70 for the install. I'll never go through a dealership to install ANYTHING! Geez. |
Lol The Z-tube Is So Easy To Instal Thats A Huge Rip-off
|
let's see, at $80 dollars an hour, it means it would take a "certified, trained mechanic", who knows there way around cars, 3 HOURS to install a Z-tube.
i know chit about cars and was able to installe mines in 1 hr, this was taking my sweet time making sure everything was lined up and wrapping the A/C line. do yourself a favor and install the thing yourself. if you know how to trun a wrench, you should be good to go. |
It's really not hard installing any CAI, it's actually real good learning experience for newbie to try to install one themselves. Try to do it yourself.
|
i'd install it myself so i'll know what to do when its time to change the air filter.
|
definitely do it yourself, its easy and you become more familiar with whats going on under the hood.. then dealerships cant bs you like they are doing now. feel free to ask any questions on the forum
|
Thanks guys. I know I should do it myself. I'm such a "P-word" that I'm afraid I'll screw the pooch and mess something up.
I probably need to just do it. |
Using the excellent write-ups found on this site, you should have little difficulty.
Are there any other G owners in your area who might assist? Do it yourself, take your sweet time, and take pride in knowing you avoided a rip-off :) |
Ahhh, Jotech....*BARF*
|
Is Jotech bad? I saw them on Car & Driver Television. They seemed to have a good reputation.
Am I wrong? I'm a little new at this. |
do it your self w/ the money you save you can get a JWT pop charger. i did my CF air intake in ~30 min. I also installed another board members z-tube in less than 20min. didnt even use the DIY, although they can be quite helpful if your never done it before. trust us, or your regret the waisted money.
|
Good god ... for that much, fly yourself out to California and I will install it for FREE in 10 minutes. :D
|
I'm always willing to help fellow DFW members install parts. :)
