Question MD 5/16" Spacer Question - Gasket between lower and upper plenum?

Hi guys,

Installing my spacer and I have a question. Do I leave the existing gasket that is already there between the upper and lower plenum? Note this isn't the gasket between the manifold and the lower gasket - I understand that part, but I wasn't sure since the spacer has gaskets on both sides should I leave the original one in place or remove it....

thanks everyone

I left mine on and it is alright so far, it seemed like a lot of unbolting and work to take it off.

ok, just so were clear. we should leave the existing gasket between the upper and lower plenum and put the MD spacer on top of that. so we'll have a gasket on both sides of the spacer?

Well my spacer came with a pre-applied gasket on both sides, and I left the existing (seemed like metal) gasket between the upper and lower plenum. Getting that off seemed like a lot of extra work and taking everything apart.

Mine also came with the gaskets applied on and I just took the plenum off and put the spacer on without taking apart the bottom gasket. Seems to be running great now without problem. The only think is to check to see if your bolts remain torqued for the center ones. I had to retorq mine about 3 times before they remained at 60 inch/lbs.

I just got my spacer, but it came with no install instructions. I found a thread in the DYI secton for a Crawford install, but it makes no mention of using a torque wrench for anything or adding a silicone seal as seen in another install link for a Skunk spacer. Is there a specific DIY anywhere for Motordyne? If not, when is the torque wrench needed and is silicone needed.
Thanks

Did you order direct or through a distributor?

Hydrazine-
No. I bought it from a member here and it was delivered without any. No problem though- I found the PDF on the Motordyne site.
Thanks

Hydrazine please, do we have to leave the OEM Gasket ? or we should take it out ?

I wanted to cut it to set under the lower collector cover (The Goldinized Cover with 6 bolts) but i left it as it is.

Thank you

It will work either way honestly. Leave it in if you want to keep it for later use, or take it out if you question the integrity of the metal gasket.

Since the upper and lower already have the one gasket sealing the and we can leave it in place will we need to buy another gasket to fit between the spacer and the upper or is it provided?

Thanks

You don't need to buy anything with the plenum spacer kits. It comes with everything you need.

Here's my two cents.

For those with a spacer having "built in" gaskets--you'll still need to properly seal the lower collector's oil gallery. Therefore, I'd recommend leaving the full factory gasket in place. A double gasket here won't hurt anything as long as they're both in good condition.
