I am waiting for my next install to make a detailed video of it. But post up what you've done so far and I can help you out with what to do.

Nice!! Thanks again

So no one has had issues just tapping into the factory wiring and keeping the original actuator wired? No overload issues? Or have people been cutting the wires and using butt connectors? Just want to make sure before doing this.

pythonjosh 07-21-2010 08:25 PM

Don't leave the old one connected, cut it.
Logic says to disconnect faulty electronics.

blAk mAx 07-21-2010 09:25 PM

Mine is still connected with no problems

pythonjosh 07-22-2010 01:15 AM

That's nice, but it doesn't mean it's good practice.
Plus it runs the risk of the old actuator running current thru it instead of using it or stopping, possibly resulting in either a blown fuse, or worse a blown relay.
Just cut the wires and eliminate the possibility. By using an aftermarket actuator you've already shown you don't trust the crappy oem one, why keep it wired up?

spinn 07-22-2010 01:24 PM

I hear ya pythonjosh...I thought I had read somewhere about someone having relay problems because they left the old actuator hooked up, that's why I wanted to double-check.

pythonjosh 07-22-2010 01:52 PM

I've done this fix to 15 G coupes (and growing) down here in So Cal, and I've cut the actuator wires on each one.
With the number that I have done, and will do in the future, I don't want to find out if 1 in 15 oem actuators that are left wired up will cause a problem, or even 1 in 100.
Because that one that has a problem from the dead actuator spreading its cancer, is gonna be a B!TCH to fix.

Gonna have to rename this to "$3.50 Door Lock Actuator fix"...found someone on Ebay that sells them for about $3.50 an actuator shipped.

MCR35 07-27-2010 10:21 AM

a video would be great python

cpufreak3 07-27-2010 11:40 AM

I left them OEM connected as well.

I bought the eBay one, works fine

Mannyz33 07-27-2010 01:59 PM

It's been a while since I did the mod and sold the car a year ago......
I ran into the gut recently and he said everything still works like a champ.

nogoodname 07-31-2010 06:45 PM

I just ordered 2 of these.... Might as well fix the passenger side too.

I installed the KPtech window roll-up module recently and right after, the driver door lock was working only partially. Right now, it doesn't work at all

pythonjosh 08-07-2010 06:24 PM

Here are videos of the installation process. Takes 30 minutes.
