Yea the actuator is universal. The custom piece is the bracket.

Wow, I was about to go to the stealership and ask them about my driver's side lock. Using my fob, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Often times I have to press it a few times to get it to lock or unlock. I'm assuming this is the fix for me.
Thanks!!

This needs a sticky.
Hopefully I'll never need to implement this solution, but if I do...
Nice writeup. Thanks

Just an FYI the repair is still working fine for me after 6 weeks. You do need to add a little foam weatherstripping to the actuator between it and the door. I had a tiny rattle and this fixed it.

soo you that you have worked in the alarm system field, what do you suggest for us that have faulty motors, where can we get a replacement, and can third party alarm system be used then?

this definitely goes in DIY; good write up man :BEAVISnBUTTHEAD:

The issue with a third party alarm is interfacing it to the factory one or disabling the factory one. The motors are just motors, they'll work with factory or aftermarket as far as i know. I suggest staying with the factory unit if it works.

Replacing the actuator is not the hard part I think, it's rather the steps it takes to remove anything in the way including the whole window.

SmoothieG35 09-08-2007 04:55 PM

How difficult is it to replace this part? My driver's side door needs this replaced. How hard is it to take the window off etc?
Thanks!!

Can't say for sure I have never done it. I think it's worth a look though.
The cheapest dealership service for this replacement is $450 (up to 600)maybe worth a look and save at least 75% in the process. The part can be purchased for under $100 (eBay or online parts store) Dealership price is a whoping $250.

DIY pictures you are my hero!!!

Hi. I'm actually in the process of getting this fix done. I have some questions though.

Which wire am i supposed to cut near the speaker? I took out my speaker (after taking out the inner panels) and all i see is my window and on the bottom some sort of plastic tubing. I do however see some Blue + Green wires that resembles the ones on the actuator. I have no idea which one leads to the stock actuator, could some1 give me guidance or share some knowledge??? :dunno:

I just performed this mod, finished it up about 30 mins ago. It should be mentioned that unless you have experience with installing this type of stuff (alarms, power doors, etc) then you may want to consider paying a shop to do this. Cant be more than $100 bucks.

This was a BITCH to do. Not a straight foward mod. Everything was purchased at Home Depot (bracket, cable clamp, hardware) for about $5 bucks and the motor was another $5 bucks from a car alarm shop. Took me about 8 hours in labor. The OP obviously knew what he was doing, but again, for the normal person I do not recommend doing this yourself.

GREAT job, my driver side lock just stopped working, im guessing this is the problem. i have a 2004 cpe.

I've heard these motors can be reset, does anyone know how this can be done? Id like to rule everything out before I jump and replace this...

benu4yooh 04-02-2008 03:07 AM

ohh man i still need to get this fixed... I scrapped this project awhile ago but still desperately need it fixed =(. I would hate to goto the dealership and drop hundreds for something that can be fixed under 10 bucks...

CAN any1 help me with connecting the wires? I got everything done except that...
