ANOTHER "Window doesn't work" thread...

A few months ago my passenger window completely stopped working. I finally bit the bullet and bought a replacement window motor from Autozone. I installed it about two weeks ago and everything seemed to be working fine.

Well, yesterday BOTH windows started acting up. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I have read through all of the window fix problems on the forum. I have tried the "hold the window switch up while slamming the door" trick. I have tried the "pound on the door panel" trick... no luck.

The driver side window motor has never been replaced so I can see that potentially being the problem. However, that doesn't explain the passenger side problem.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Try taking apart the motor and clean it with some alcohol or hobby store electric motor spray. Most likely its just dirty and needs a cleaning. Fixed my driver side right up. There should be a DIY on here for cleaning it too.

I actually tried cleaning the old motor on my passenger side. That didn't work, so I bought the replacement motor. It's only two weeks old, I can't imagine it would need to be cleaned already.

I'll probably just bite the bullett again and replace the drivers side motor... but I still don't understand whats wrong with the passenger side.

Maybe just a loose connection? Before you go and throw more money on a new motor you should try to just replace the brushes on the motor. Even tho the motor is new & the brushes should be good, might be worth a try.

I checked all the connections. Everything looks fine. Not sure why the f*ck Nissan/Infiniti has issues like this. I guess I'll take everything apart again tomorrow and clean the brushes.

Thanks for the suggestions BowWizzel.

Try resetting the motors first. You can find instructions on this forum. If you bought the passenger from autozone it should have a lifetime warranty.

I did the motor reset after I installed it. Everything was working flawless for two weeks.

I checked all the connections last night and cleaned the motor (although it looked clean already)... the passenger side window was still stuck. Then this morning I got in my car to go to work and its miraculously working again.

Assuming the motor is fine, what else could be causing these intermittent issues?

I'm planning on switching back to OEM from the Autozone brands soon. I spoke to a dealer and they have mentioned that there is a newer style OEM window motor now being sold that works better than the original OEM motors that came with the G35s. With my Autozone brand ones, I have to keep resetting the motor every few months to get it working again.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will try to re-reset the motor tonight. Hopefully that will help. Its quite frustrating everytime I reach for the window button and I don't know if its going to work!

This is why i bought an oem window motor instead

Is there a way of knowing if the regulator and motor needs to be replaced instead of just the motor????

yup

That's autozone motors for you. I rebuild window motors here in So cal and occasionally Nor cal as a side job. Those motors are complete garbage and I refuse to install them when customers come to me with them

Regulator question

Take out the motor and put a socket wrench where the cube part of the motor goes. Turn it by hand. if it goes up and down with little resistance your regulator is good.

Bottom line its rarely ever just the regulator without the motor being bad. When you take out motor try greasing with some white lithium grease, works like a charm.
