I️ messed up my cluster needles 05MT

Okay so i’m really stupid and was curious about taking my cluster out and just checking it out, because i noticed my RPM needle was loose, anyways i took it out, and i took off the needles on it... i put them all back on after i was done snooping around , and only the speedometer would fall nice and slow like how it was before. All of the other needles stay put wherever they’re placed , and i have no idea what to do now lol, HELP! 2005 G35 coupe MT

You created a clusterf#ck

Check all plugs and connections including grounds

Yup that is going to be a pain to calibrate.

cleric670 11-13-2017 09:30 AM

It's not even a calibration issue. The stepper motor moves the needle and its a spring wound reset and when you pulled the needle off you unwound the spring.

Hmmmm you learn something everyday! Hope ya get it figured out.

OP if it were me I wouldn't touch it again. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing if you want it fixed right.....

Fix**

i was able to find a way, by plugging in the cluster, seeing where the needles moved when I turned the key to the on position, and when they moved up, i simply just took off the needles and placed them where they should be while it was on. I’m 99% sure this will work, i’m not able to test it on the road yet, i’m polishing my plenum myself atm.

That's actually a really good idea, hopefully it all works out.

the way to calibrate the needles isnt too hard. anyone who has done an led swap on the gauge cluster will need to recalibrate it all.

for the gas just get a full tank without topping off then when the engine is on, place it at the F mark.

for temp let the car idle for 10 mins or when it has fully warmed up and put it roughly in the middle a little below the middle line

for rpm there are a few different ways to tackle it, you can get an odb2 reader and have ur phone or tablet that has an app that links up to the odb2 reader and gas it to 2k and hold and place the needle at the 2k mark. the odb2 readers are pretty cheap so id invest in one. if you dont have one and dont want to, you can do it the old fashioned way by setting your rev limiter to a certain rpm and trying to hold it right when your shift light blinks but its a pretty crude method and you will most likely be off by a few hundred rpm. again this is done with the engine on

for speed get a partner and have them use a navigation app that has speed on it and drive and try to maintain a constant speed, this will be the hardest one because you will need to set the needle while the car is in motion and still maintain a specific speed
