Windows Stuck - Won't Roll Up or Down
2004 G35 Coupe. Been having issues with them for awhile but now they seem completely toast.
Before if they got stuck I could get them to roll down or up by holding the switch while shutting the door. No more. At first it was the passenger window giving the most trouble and then sometimes it was driver's side , sometimes passenger. Since it's both windows, seems unlikely it's the motor? Doesn't work on either the passenger switch or the drivers switch. Funds are tight at the moment and know some of the possible options are pricey if taken in, so would much prefer to get this sorted by myself. It's a bit cold nowdays to be driving around with a window down! Really appreciate any suggestions, not sure where to start. I've heard some people mention just cleaning the different parts helped? |
If they didn't both completely die at the same time then it's most likely the motors. Is the window that is "down" completely inside the door? If not have you tried grabbing it with one hand and pulling up, while using the up switch at the same time? As for replacements - stock motors are about $300, Amazon sells some for $35. Personally I wouldn't waste my money on one of those (Amazon), but if it gets you through the winter cheaply it might be an option. I bought a RevSpring motor from CZP this summer for $100 and it seemed to be decent quality. Installation isn't difficult.

Disconnect the battery, take off the door card panel, plug the door switch back in, unplug the window motor harness, reconnect the battery.
Now operate the switch up/down while you use a digital multimeter to probe the wires on the motor harness, it should be +12vdc up and -12vdc down. If you have voltage then you know it's the door motor that fried. If you don't have voltage then it's something else like broken wires in the door flex loom where it connects to the chassis, bad switch, etc. There's quite a few wires on that motor harness for the power, encoder, limit switches. Driver and passenger side the motor power is BLUE and GREEN, and there are two green wires, you want the DARK GREEN one not the light green. |
