Clear Bra Nightmare - Pics Inside
#31
Whatever kit that is is a joke. First find a reputable installer and then find out what kits they use. www.pftfilms.com is my friend's site and he is soon to be cutting his own kits (using a special plotter) but uses the 3M kits that are generally considered the best around for fitment and design.
I've NEVER seen something as half-assed as what you show in those pics. I don't understand why everything is cut in half and what's with the gaps. Absolutely horrible.

No, they did not wrap the edges on mine. The largest edge tolerance on the bumper is about 1/4", however, most of the edges are within 1/8". The edge tolerances should be based on the pattern cut. Most of the places in Dallas that I talked to used the same distributor for their pattern cut (Enpro if I recall correctly).
You can have a custom install (i.e. where the clearbra is cut out of a large sheet on the car) for wrapped eges. There is a place in Frisco (Zaino Mobile Detailers or something like that) that prefers to do it this way. A custom install was just way to expensive for me.
You did get me worried when you said SunMasters gave a 7 year warranty. I just went out to double check my receipt and called them and I have a lifetime warranty. There was another place in Arlington that someone recommended to me that offered a lifetime warranty. SunMasters is much closer to me so I chose them. I will look up the Arlington shop and post their name after I get back from lunch.
Hopes this helps.

Thanks Jamey.
My installer called again and told me that he needs the film back so that he can get his money back. I can remove it myself, or he could do it. My question is, are there any concerns I should have about having him remove it? Is it just as simple as warming it up and taking it off? I'm afraid about him damaging my clear coat if he doesn't know what he's doing.

Try Expertint in Frisco. They did my IP 05 with a 3M product (not sure what the brand name was) and I am very pleased. I do not have a front lip. I only did the front bumper and mirrors. I know this was a pre-cut kit that comes to about 1/4" of the edges. They cut the mirror strips from scrapes and were perfect. I think it was around $350.

OMG - terrible. But congrats on the no-charge. At least he was professional about it. I think we're all discovering that proper clear bra installation is nearly an art form. People around Indy have had bad experiences too...
...my clear bra installed at Infiniti of Dublin in Columbus OH is flawless though! Highly recommended dealership!

you pretty much got what you paid for me. They normally go for 500+ for the same work. For mine, since I have a nismo front bumper, I had to get it custom because they only have a template for the stock front. However, since the nismo bumper is similarly shaped like the stock one, they were able to modify the stock template to fit my nismo. They charged me $500 for only the front bumper. This was done at EDL.

If I was u I'd never put a clear bra in the first place, I know they protect the paint, but I talked to this guy who has been in the paintshop business for years, he said in a short of time the clear bra will turn yellow, he has taken a lot of cars to fix this problem, and they were all 3M which is the best kind.
