Just ordered my THX-SS knob...can't wait...

For those of you that are not familiar with this short shifter, it was designed by a member here on the forum and is a long-time G owner and road course instructors...his name is Clint and his handle here is THX723.

Here's a link to some picks of it as well as impressions from people who people who purchased it from Sharif @ Forged Internals.

Randy are you sure thats a short shifter? I think its just a lighter knob that help in reducing the shifting.

Clint can elaborate, but yes, it's short shifter because it shortens the throw between gears...

thats gonna be really cold during winter and burning hot during summer.

WhosUrBuddiee Oct 28, 2005 04:56 PM

Honestly it kinda looks like a butt plug.

Hey Arash,
You are correctly this is not a 'short shifter' because the oem shifter is still being utilized. This knob is however able to achieve an overall reduction in throw length via height reduction that also has a postive effect on the aesthetic department imo. It is just like the feeling you get with the Nismo Ti GT knob you currently own. Only this one went further and the reduction is much more pronounced.

The THX-SS knob is actually heavier than the oem knob, yet another key ingredient in improving the shifter feel. Solid CNC'd stainless-steel contruction assure maximum tactile feedback. No more hollow, rubbery sensation and the vagueness of the oem. You will know exactly which gear you are rowing into. One must try to really appreciate this thing.

Here's are a couple more pics inside the G35 and Z.

Note: the knob may appear gigantic in this shot because a wide angle lense was used. In reality the knob has a very compact and slim profile that is hard to imagine in all of the pics shown thus far.

Been addressed too many times in the past. If you've got the time read through this thread:

In short, all materials are susceptible to getting hot eventually and metals are even more likely. The common misconception is that stainless steel is really poor with respect to it's heat characteristics. It is actually not compare to aluminum, a far better conductor and capacitor of heat. The bottom line is SS will behave far better than aluminium for this application. There are more than 50 THX-SS knobs out there in circulation ... no complains I'm aware of. There's no preventing the knob from getting hot if there are enough heat around (it has to go somewhere). In situations where this SS knob actually gets really warm to the touch, a same one made of aluminum would have been scortching hot.

Hope that helps,
Clint

Hey, I bet that would be a close match to the '05 brushed aluminum interior.

I don't know how you know this, but if I ever see a butt plug I would know what it is.

SILVRG35 Oct 28, 2005 08:48 PM

Do you have any plans to make it in black?

THX723 Oct 28, 2005 10:11 PM

Sorry no ... but you can always have it powder coated.
