G35Driver - Infiniti G35 & G37 Forum Discussion - Anyone install BAT's tail light overlays

I think the secret here is to heat up the vinyl to get it to form. Here is the readers digest version (off the top of my head) this is what I do to apply 3m tape.

First things first, get a spray bottle, mix 1 part dish soap to 3 parts water (or whatever you feel comfortable with, a good soapy consitency is important). Get some sort rubber squeegee (your hands could work, but it may be a bit difficult), a firm car or small rectangle of plastic enough to fit in the palm of your hand wrapped with a small terry towel. Finally, you need a hairdryer or heat gun (use more precaution wiht a heat gun, it *could* blister your paint if you are not attentive)

Insure the surface of the taillight is clean.

Spray the surface of the tallight and surrounding area with your dish/water combo, now peel back the vinyl and spray the entire back side of it.

Lay it over top of the taillight and position it to suit your tastes, the dish/water spray combo will allow you to slide it around, never mind the bumps and bubbles for the moment.

Now take the hairdryer or heat gun and heat the vinyl until it's malleable and stretch and press it around the shape and bumps of the taillight. Use your squeegee or hands to do this Start from the center outwards or the most complex area first (the idea here is to move the air bubbles out. Alternate pressing and heating the vinyl into all the shapes and bumps untill you are happy with the way it sits.

The edges are done roughly the same way, using the plastic card with the towel, again always moving to the edge, center out. Heat if neccessary, but use caution along body panels, heat can blister paint in a few careless seconds. The card presses out the excess soapy water and the towel absorbs the liquid.

Once this is all done, sit back, let it cool for a few minutes, touch up/press/heat squeegee any area you think may need additional attention. Again, moving center out all the way to the edge.

Let another few minutes pass, once that is done, take a sharp utility knife or exacto and trim along the edge of the taillight to remove excess vinyl, slowly peel off the excess vinyl from the surrounding fender.

Tada, stand back and enjoy. I'd reccommend waiting a few days before washing your car as well so teh vinyl sets in.

I may have missed something, it's late and I'm tired, but I think that covers most of it, anyone feel free to append the list or steps, but this should get you a good idea of how to progress.
